I am in agreement with Cheerwine, 5 games in 8 days plus international travel, plus whatever they were doing when they weren't on the court I am thinking they are extremely fatigued and are excited to be coming home. Got what they needed out of this and that is time on the court together to gel.

That's some ugly shooting numbers. Looks like Melbourne made some adjustments.

Great trip regardless of the outcomes. The offense will be fine. Defensively they have to get much better. However, at least they have something to build on going into fall camp. It's much better to work out the kinks in August than November.

The schedule isn't tough in the first part (ASU may be the only decent team they play, if they play them). I think once Victor is eligible they become much stronger inside. Get to mid-Dec with 0 or only 1 loss is a reasonable goal

Melbourne essentially played an entirely different team except for like 2 players.

Blanchfield was All-NBL 2nd team last year, Holt just played Summer ball with the Cavs and averaged 15 a game at St. Mary's, Kickert averaged nearly 17 at St Mary's and has played all over the world professionally, Majok Majok averaged a fricken double double in college...

Point is, these are good players and we had a lot going against us going into this game. Lets not overreact.

True Alt, the experience against quality competition and the extra practice time is huge.

I hope so. To me it's critical he gives us what we all hope he will. To make the most of what we have this year with Simmons and all the talented guards we have we need at least one kid who can do the dirty work consistently on the inside.

Geaux Tigers!!

Well brothers, that was an arse kicking. Back to the drawing board to work out the kinks I guess.

Didn't take you very long to get down and depressed.

Hopefully he's the answer because right now even with Ben Simmons performing the way he did, it looks like the same Jekyll and Hyde team from last season, which means unless the attitude of the players change and the focus improves from last season it could still end in disappointment. It's not that they lost, but how bad they managed to lose. I sure hope this is just a one-off.

Melbourne United was +16 in terms of points in the paint.

LSU is going to really, really struggle without any semblance of an interior low post presence next year. The rebounding and PIP stat from above is pretty doggone telling. Can't believe we don't have a single serviceable big on this roster.

It's the one missing piece.

Malone seemingly played less and less as the trip progressed. Kind of disappointing that ER3 still can't seem to make it on to the court.

Like others here have said, I suspect the whole makeup of this team will change once Victor becomes eligible.

Epps has improved and seeing quality minutes. A rotation of Epps and Victor at PF with Simmons and a pick from the litter rotation (TQ, Sampson, Hornsby, Blakely, et al) in a 3 guard lineup looks good. Our Bigs seeing very limited and diminishing minutes including Malone. A true Center just does not seem to fit the running style of play Coach JJ is installing with a shortened 30 sec clock this year.

Why is Simmons playing nearly 37 minutes in a blowout? Looks like cJJ will revert back to his mentality of riding the best players earlier than usual.

cJJ also has no intention of developing a center. The combined 8+ minutes by Malone / Robinson makes no sense considering their +- was only -2. Obviously there would be details from watching the game, but the team was holding its own with them in there.

Epps is more of a wing than a post. We really got screwed by missing out on a post player last year. I wonder if JJ was pursuing some guys hard or if he felt we had enough presence down there to survive without Mickey.

I'll never understand not giving players more playing time, especially in games that don't count. You can't get better just from practice, you have to have solid game competition to sharpen your steel.

A coaches instinct is instinctively to try to win, even in games that don't really matter.

I agree with your point, but looks like they are going to put all of their eggs in the Victor basket, and hope Epps can help out on the boards too. I hope it's enough.

People are insane reading into these stats. You realize we played a professional basketball player who was 1st team all-WCC and another 1st team all-MAC. Like they're professionals guys...if they didn't have a positive point production in the paint it would be a terrible sign for them.

People don't realize this, but half the players in the sec don't even play professional basketball. Meaning the NBA is the absolute best of the best, but other leagues are littered with players who at one time got a shot in the NBA or were studs in college. We aren't just playing bums off the street that have no background in basketball

For more reference: you know who played for the Sydney Kings 2 years ago? Charles Carmouche. He was a stud for us and he eventually got cut

Great point for perspective. Also to add to that, LSU practiced together 10 days prior to going over there. That is a very, very short time to go play against pros who have continuity with the rules and LSU having 3 new freshmen who play huge minutes. I feel it was a great showing and will pay dividends down the road.

Simmons is basically a national sports icon down under, no doubt CJJ was playing to the crowd
