Also disappointing that the majority of the talk lately had to be about injuries

This Jake Slaughter kid must be legit. I thought Chris Reid did an excellent job last year and I wasn't expecting him to lose his starting job.

Is it wrong that I think Newman will have a bigger impact as a senior this year?

Trick Question. Deichmann. No HRs till he returns.

According to Air Force's game notes, Jacob Devries will get the start against LSU. He's the lefty that throws mid-90s, topping out at 97 MPH.
Was a late round draft pick but returned to school. Would have gone higher but has some control issues from time to time and there were questions regarding his availability due to his service commitment. Very live arm.
ETA: Hopefully this copies and pastes okay, but here are some collected scouting reports I found on Devries:
First Name Last Name Position Height Weight Year Drafted MLB Team Link Baseball Cube D1 Baseball
Jacob Devries LHP 6'3" 215 Senior 38-2016 Indians Air Force Career Stats Link
Indians Baseball Insider Draft Write Up
Jacob DeVries is the first college player the Indians have taken since pick 32. After a string of well thought of prep players, the Indians went for a player from the Air Force Academy which could cause a separate set of issues. Griffin Jax, his teammate, went a lot higher and there was a lot of talk about how he might not get a waiver to serve. I assume this will be the same issue for DeVries and maybe a bigger issue because he was not a high pick. By reports, he is a good athlete and the video I found had a clean delivery. He hit 96 MPH from the left side which alone is a big deal. It is easy to see what the Indians see here in the 6’3” lefty, but the numbers are troubling. He walked just two less guys than he struck out. After taking all of the players with plus command for most of the draft, this is the second straight college pitcher whose command and control are both well below average. There is a lot to work with here, and I am sure its a package that scouts love, but DeVries is going to take some work if they sign him and he gets a waiver.
The Baseball Draft Report Write Up
Jacob DeVries felt like a lock to lead the Mountain West pitching group in 2016 throughout the offseason, but recent feedback I’ve gotten seems to point to Griffin Jax being the preferred option of the majority who have seen them both up close. It’s still really, really close, but the reaction to Jax was generally more complimentary than what I heard back on DeVries. For many the choice came down to opting for a little more certainty in Jax (better control, changeup further along) than gambling on the upside of DeVries. I’d personally be tempted by DeVries’s easy velocity (87-94, 96 peak) from the left side and above-average curve, but I’ll go with the people on this one until I re-rank in June. Until then, I’ll just say that DeVries scouting profile reads similarly to Jeff Degano last year. Something to think about.
D1Baseball 2015 Season Preview
Behind Jax is Jacob DeVries, who can also hit 96 on the gun, but from the left side. The physical junior is an imposing presence on the mound and feeds off the intensity of the game. Continued improvement of his offspeed command would push him from good to great.
Fastball: 96 (87-94)
Curvebal: 78-81
Changeup: 82-83

I'm gonna say Beau gets the first HR.

If you really twisted my wrist, I'd go with Adams. My only hesitation is playing time though. If he doesn't get it, I'll go with KRob just to satisfy my fans.

eh, i know i've seen these "polls" on here in the past.
Just figured it'd be a bit more interesting this year with the obvious guy possibly not playing.
ETA: could you imagine the same poll back in 97?

I just think Newman will factor in more games than Poche this season. Even though he carries the closer tag, Mainieri has already said that he can be used for 2 or even 3 innings.
