quote:no doubt, i agree completely, but theres a massive difference between recruiting well and 6 straight number 1 classes. that simply isnt possible. ignoring that is like pretending Mark McGuire used creatine to hit 70 home runs.
Saban has ALWAYS recruited well.

Yeah, and 6-8 years of the best college coach and the system he has built doesn't t hurt.

2001 was the #1 class and the point, that you completely failed to address, still stands that flew over your head
Take a gander at your link. FSU had 11 commitments....
Once again, pathetic.

Dude, we know. Those of us who can actually look at the situation objectively. Youll get some shite, about how there is no way lord saban is cheating.....but you can book it, he and Alabama are as dirty of a program as any out there. Problem is, the SEC and NCAA have no motivation to do anything about it.

People hating on OP because he just reminded us of the unspoken truth behind college football. I just spent 30 minutes educating myself about current NCAA President Mark Emmert (thanks to a previous post above). He's come a long way since Montana, and the man did many good things for LSU so I'm not going to trash him.
Money and politics are going to feature in any human endeavor (including college football), because that's just how the world turns.
For all of you thinking the OP is just sour grapes, wake up.
And for all of you thinking college football players should be paid, that's what the NFL is for. These kids are offered a free college education in exchange for their service. They can earn their millions after what? Two years? Speaking of millions, how many millions of people in this country are living below poverty level and would love the opportunity to have a free college education?
We start paying kids a salary to play college and then what? What's the cap? Is there a cap? You know that money will cut into the cost of all the other college sports programs, right? Baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming, track and field, on and on. Pay the football players and that means less money for America's Universities. So we should squeeze more money out of our higher education system to prop up future 1% members?
Let them go straight to the NFL from High School. I will STILL watch the games with the 99% that doesn't draft, and support MY university which afforded me so many opportunities to develop into a better human being.
God Bless LSU and GEAUX Tigers!

Omg - freaking whining low self esteem arse wipes. Go call your chest buddies. Move on. Sick of LSU fans whining about another program's success. This is a punk arse post!!!!

the reason why Bama has so many great classes is because Saban says jump and the AD asks how high. He gets everything he wants. New weight room? Sure. New players lounge? Sure. New academic center? Sure. It goes on and on.
They have a larger recruiting budget than anyone else in the country, a much larger staff than anyone in the country, and a giddy alumni/booster support staff.
It doesn't help that Saban is the best coach in college football history, Bama is a national product, and they are on a roll.
That is why Bama is tops. They hire more men to analyze film, more men to cold call these kids, spend more money on trips to visit and recruit, have a larger footprint, and Saban is relentless and micro manages every facet of his program.
AND they cheat.
everything you just said about saban you could say about belichick, and we know he taped the jets practice to steal their signals.
heres something saban said about working as the DC under belichick
quote:
“We used to have a guy that used to sit in the press box, and all’s he did was analyze the signal-caller on the other team. And by the end of the first quarter — this guy was really smart — he would say, ‘It’s a run,’ or ‘It’s a pass.'”
now heres a video of former Ole Miss director of player personnel, who saban hired, in the bama press box with a pair of binoculars as bama plays ole miss
that guy was gone the next season and is now the WR coach at South Alabama.
saban and belichick could both win a lot of games without cheating, but theyre obsessed with winning, so they work their arse off AND they cheat, one doesnt rule out the other

Is that even illegal? Seems like that is on Ole Miss. I hope LSU changed their play calls against Auburn and A&M....

Attention to detail isn't cheating

You should at least become informed. They did not tape the jets practices....

again, like I said, Saban utilizes advantages and asked for every personnell advantage under the sun. Go look at his staff. It's bigger than every other team in the country.
Again, that's why he's the best. UNtil the NCAA limits the amount of men on the payroll for a football team, Saban will continue to hire as many men as he needs to analyze film, plays, his daily crap, someone to bring him little debbies and so on.
Saban doesn't play straight up, he wants a stacked deck.

First off, that doesn't change the point I was making about Saban's recruiting ability in the slightest. I get that you have a preconcieved bias, but keep ignoring it over and over again.
Second, I can't comprehend what I posted for you. Try to use that little bitty brain of yours and read what I actually posted.
26 players > 11 players, Which didn't even include top recruit Clausen
Third, what year was 247 established? Let's see if you can figure that out.

"I never dreamed anybody would have a perfect score," said Emfinger, who explained that he gives seven points to each player who ranks among the top 175 in the country. Emfinger said LSU had 20 such players for 140 points, which has never happened before. Florida State finished second under his system with 137 points and 17 top-echelon signees. Tennessee was third at 134 and 15, respectively.
LSU signed 27 players overall, although quarterback Rick Clausen will count towards last year's total after graduating early from high school and enrolling at LSU. Those at the top of Emfinger's list included the Baton Rouge pair of tight end Marcus Spears from Southern Lab and wide receiver Michael Clayton from Christian Life Academy.
Wallace of SuperPrep said he ranked Spears and Clayton at the top of their positions, along with fellow signees Marquise Hill, a defensive end from New Orleans' De La Salle, and Ben Wilkerson, an offensive lineman from Hemphill, Texas.
Furthermore, LSU had the #1 class in 2003 (before our NC year) according to rivals

and the Bama obsession continues...
Really sad that fans resort to this kind of thinking.
I'm as pissed as anyone else that we can't beat Bama, but it doesn't mean Saban's cheating. And it doesn't mean the refs are cheating.
Unfortunately right now, Bama's just better in every aspect of the program. Acknowledge it, hire the right new HC, and work harder to bridge the gap.
But don't lob out accusations of cheating. It makes you look pathetic.

No Bama is that good because they have that good of a coach. End of discussion, there is no arguing it.

He utilizes the resources at his disposal and why not use free labor from your student body to do the grunt work, spend hours crunching numbers, watching film, creating spreadsheets if they are there?

If you are a student taking your normal required classes and the head coaches office gives you a call or they contact your professor because they want you to help with the team and you are going to have to do the shite anyway, wouldn't you be jumping at the chance?
As a Nutrition major, would you rather create a meal plan for an anonymous 65 yr old heart patient or a 20 yr old athlete you will be watching every week on the field/court for your school? You gotta do the meal plan anyway it's part of your course work.
Your are studying to be a physical therapist...would you rather work with your school's athletes or go to the old folks home and help a patient with a broken hip?

Saban never had an undefeated season in Baton Rouge either. He averaged 3 losses a year. Goes to gumpland and is the goat? Something's up!

Google "distended gut syndrome." It's a side effect of human growth hormone where the abdomen becomes prominent because the internal organs are enlarged. Very noticeable among some Alabama players. Trent Richardson and Derrick Henry both had it.
Posted on 11/8/16 at 1:09 pm to RT1941
RT, you are absolutely right. Saban is an innovator and will toe the line. No harm no foul. As to the cheating point....I think the truth lies somewhere in between. That being said, National championships help with recruiting as much as anything. I personally think, all schools have "dirty business" going on to some degree. JMO
