I agree, but why did Miles decide to go with two DC's? I know we shouldn't judge him, but it is a mistake. This is not the same defense, yet we have the same coaches and most of the same players. I know we lost a lot of leadership, but if all of the recruits are good, they should step right in. It will depend on how the team rebounds against USC. If we have the same issues and lose or win by a small margin, then I think we are in trouble.

The word on the street is that Miles wanted Muschamp and tried to get him here, but Muschamp declined because it really would have been a step back for WM. I'm not sure if Mallory/Peveto was Plan B per se (they very well could have been Plan F for all we know), but they certainly weren't Miles' top choice. To me, this emphasizes the point that Miles knows what he's doing and at least tried to go out and get a proven DC, which at least makes me feel better in the sense that if Peveto/Mallory don't work out, Miles won't be afraid to go out and fix the problem if needed.

For right now, though, Give em time, maybe they'll grow into the role like Pelini did.

I read in Glen Guilbeau's chat (I know, I know) that he didn't think that Miles would be hesitant to make changes and cost him his own job a la Dinardo ... ???

I hope not ...

I really enjoyed reading this entire post.

I, for one, am going to South Carolina to support my Tigers! Those selling tickets, for shame.

Just like last year's SECCG, I went when some counted the Tigers out and doubted them.

...Forever LSU!

Great Post JP. It seems the post help shed some light on the game. Just like you said before, we predicted and expected this loss. So, when it finally happened it seemed like many fans were surprised and a lot of our fellow tigers wanted some heads on the chopping blocks. Don't get me wrong, I know I don't like getting blown out in these types of games either, but again we are very young and will indeed get better as we continue the season. At least someone brought positive meaning to this situation and that we should support our tigers. I have always said that anyone can be a fan when a team is winning. It's when things start to fall apart and the team is down on their luck with their true fans standing by them determines true fans. Almost like true friends. Great post.

What you say is definitely true ... you can really learn a lot about a person by watching how they respond to adversity in any aspect of life ...

That said, Fans will be fans (it is short for fanatical, lol). It's hard sometimes, but I just have to teach myself to be able to recognize when a fan is simply being emotional and irrational as opposed to realistic and rational and simply tune out the irrational fans. We all get emotional after losses (or at least I would think we all do), so really all of us are probably a tad irrational the first 24-48 hourse after a loss.

Nonetheless, it still gets under my skin because you're bound to be exposed to those irrational fans at some point or another and they are bound to piss you off.

I really think our DCs got timid the rest of the game in regards to pressure after getting burned on that first blitz and Harvin's TD".

I have a contrary view when it comes to the 3rd down play with the blitz. The blitz did not give the opportunity for the big play that resulted in the TD. Rather a safety that was out of position plus the "flook" of the tipped pass falling into the receivers hands is what gave the big play opportunity.

I agree with you ... it was more of a fluke play than anything, but I just like to point out to people that blitzing isn't always the answer.

Many people think we should be blitzing 75% of the time, and they're simply not very knowledgable and their opinions are discounted when they assert an opinion where it is evident they don't know football.

Don't get me wrong, I want us to be aggressive and creative on defense, but there are two sides to every story ... certianly be imaginative on defense, but understand that occasionally it's going to come back to bite you in the arse.

Great post...this team shouldn't be expected to be much better than 9-3 with all the youth & uncertainty.

While I'd love to see that game, I think PSU is headed for BCS land this year--that beating they put on UDub at Madison was impressive.

Agreed, but don't get me wrong, if we do better than that I'd be ecstatic and it's not totally out of the realm of possibility. I think the best case scenario is 2 losses (including SECCG) and worst case scenario is 4 losses (obviously not including SECCG) ... we probably fall in the middle at 9-3 like you say.
