I love those who use the 'academic programs are getting cut but we're paying coaches millions!' argument.

I know right then I'm speaking to a dumbass.

Every million dollar that LSU gives back to LSU above what Bama gives back to Bama equals 1 point in the ball game.

So if Bama doesn't give back anything to Bama then LSU starts out with a 10 point lead.

Am I correct saying this? LSU is the only football program in FBS that receives no state tax payer money and also gives money back to the university?

No state university should use state funds ( Taxpayer dollars) for athletics.

So you think that the athletic department isn't part of the university? The department owes its existence to the university. The money generated by the department is in fact university money, not the athletic department's money. I am glad we have a department that generates revenue. Kudos to the department. And I am glad it transfers money back to the university, but make no mistake, all of the money generated is university money. These transfers are not gifts or donations.

I heard Alleva say there was one other school, but didn't name the university. He did say we're the only SEC school. According to USA Today, there are only 6 other athletic departments that are truly self-funded like LSU.

So why aren't all the schools doing this? The responsibility for funding a public institution falls on the state, students and alums. Sadly, the state of Louisiana and LSU alums have failed miserably. Less than 11% of LSU alums donate anything back to their school. Shameful...

Unfortunately the students will be the last ones to receive any benefit from this money. The admin increases salaries, funds their self gratification agendas and depends more and more on governmental funding as these areas expand. Meanwhile tuition expenses increase more than health care expenses.

If the money comes from TAF it is certainly a donation or gift.

Great. Further proof that Rantards can take ANY thread an turn it into something that involves Alabama.

OK, I will be the contrarian here. Aleva should concentrate on winning the athletics arms race. It is Jindal's job to see to it that higher education is properly funded.

Athletics is an arms race in the SEC. If Athletics keeps giving such large donations can they keep up or stay middle of the pack in terms of facilities?

Maybe with a new governor, higher education will be properly funded and allowed to prosper again.
