You were, at best, trying to taint LSU's BCS title under Miles from just 19 months ago.
BTW, so what if LSU was the first two-loss team to ever play for the BCS Championship? It's a heck of a lot better than being the second team that did it (know what I'm sayin'?).

Interesting you cited Coker, whose demise was advanced when LSU blew away Miami 40-3 in the Peach Bowl in Miles first season here. As in No. 9-ranked Miami (that was #4 at one point). Coker fired 6 assistants and then he got the axe a yr. later.

I'm not saying Miles is the greatest coach in sports history. His stubbornness last yr. to keep playing J. Lee was a nightmare, as was his failed experiment to have Co-DCs. His play-calling/changing is vexing at times and his Rain Man moments give me headaches. But if he takes the heat for the bad, you gotta give him credit for the good, and LSU's success in his 4-plus seasons is remarkable.

Miles' overall record and body of work is damn strong. And while a lot of us are frustrated that this year's team is underachieving, 5-0 & a No. 4 ranking (and a shot at home vs. No. 1 on Sat.) ain't so bad.

Another Crystal Ball this season and I personally declare him the best ever and proceed to blow him... but no swallowing.

Isn't it possible that the aforementioned issues of public speaking and vaguely condemned doofusness has led us to agree (without any proper substantiation) that Miles doesn't do Xs and Os?
That's very possible and likely the reason. If he (and LSU) doesn't like it, he should change it by cutting out the airhead routine. If not, he's going to have to live with the public perceptions, and don't bitch when he's not on a top 10 list of coaches, this is precisely why he's not. You can't have it both ways. It is what it is.

Because when I do what you way declare "Look at the body of work" -which in coaching can mean only one thing - Win/Loss and a clean program
The body of work I'm referring to is not the won/loss record, it's the body of work of being in public and being in front of the camera. You look dumb once, people forget about it, do it twice, and eyebrows are raised, do it 3 or more times, and your public persona is immortalized for good or bad. If you don't like it, change it.

It's all about the perception...

Miles is bad at time management
The players keep getting cramps from the lack of conditioning
There have been several behavioral problems since he took over...perceived lack of discipline

It really doesn't have anything to do with whether he wins. People knock him because they don't like his style of winning. We want our head coach to coach the way our high school coaches did, like mean sons of bitches.

What precisely are you referencing here? I haven't noticed anything more than under any prior coaches.

Fact is, it's almost impossible not to have at least a small handful of problems in any group of 100 or so 18-22 year olds.

I've never really seen anyone cite this to be a particular knock against Les.

cramps dont occur from lack of conditioning. Its a lack of potassium in the diet. which is also Miles' fault im sure.

behavioral problems? you mean unlike florida?

A good coach is one that wins.. and he's been winning.. until he starts to do the opposite.. he'll be a good coach.

I certainly agree that it shouldn't be attributed to Miles. The biggest one was always Perriloux... I heard a lot of people bitching that the coaches couldn't keep him in line last year.

Les Miles was an offensive lineman wasn't he? So not being able to recruit offensive linemen will prevent him from being a great coach.

Right. One socially deviant goofball, for whom a huge number of folks in the state would have absolutely revolted, had Les not gotten him on campus.

Sort of dumb to cite that as an example of this being a knock on Les as to "discipline" issues.

I think you're mixing up sayings here.

you were just playing devil's advocate?

or dont shoot the messenger?

if you were playing devil's advocate you deserve to get shot for advocating for satan (who we have all come to understand is nick saban)

A "good" coach?

I want an elite coach.

But to answer your question, Miles' reputation will be enhanced if he can finish 10-2 or better this season. His reputation will be further tarnished if he finishes 8-4 or worse. If he finishes 9-3, his reputation will remain static.

If he loses five sec games in a row like last year, he will then be Gerry Dinardo.
