I would be happy to have him out of the SEC.

There are very few examples of someone replacing an "all-time great" who was still in his prime. Zook, who bombed. Bill Walsh's replacement sucked and quit after one year. Maybe Mark Helfrich, who's not doing so bad so far, but too early to tell. Does Jimmy Johnson count as an "all time great?"
Perhaps what I said wasn't as true as I thought, but I'll say that not only is it incredibly rare to have an all-time great leave and the school pick up right where it left off (Oregon is a great example--they haven't really missed a beat through three coaches), but it is also rare for a school to pay out the arse and get their money's worth in terms of on-field results.

There would be overturned cars, burning couches, and the Rant would shut down. Like a Lakers celebration. I'd torch my own car in celebration.

I wouldn't mind Saban winning at Texas. I don't like him winning at Bama because they are a rival.

I'd be as happy as a pig in slop.

I don't care if a nick Saban led Texas team beats LSU.
I do care if/when an Alabama Saban team beats us.

We don't play Texas every year.

Looks like THIS is what is going on at LSU... They are paying OUT-THE-arse for mediocre results.

Well yeah, Saban leaving wouldn't make Welter any better. LSU still has it's issues. But it'd sure help our chances at winning the west.

Just think, if Saban isn't at Bama then LSU has crystal from 2011 and prob wins the west in 2012. No top recruits would be going there from La.

It'd be paradise. Just need 72 virgins and we're set.

Sure Saban is OWNING LSU, but so did Ole Miss and UGA this year. Its NOT just Saban and Bama

No, LSU wasn't owned by Ole Miss or UGA this year. They lost close games that could've gone either way. That's going to happen in the SEC to everyone not named Saban. The common denominator of the last 3 seasons has been that LSU has lost to Alabama and those losses cost LSU a shot or a potential shot at a championship in each of those 3 years.

Bama wouldn't be able to match UT

Considering the University president just said that the $5.5 million they give Saban is the best investment they've made in his time there, I think they'd be willing to spend quite a bit more. I'd bet that Bama could pay whatever Texas is willing to pay.

That's what I keep telling myself.

Then I realize Mack has cobbled together a decent record and will never quit of his own free will. He's a great admirer of the way Bobby and JoePa went out.

Apparently there is smoke to this rumor. I have a friend in the coaching business that gave it a 75% prediction it would happen

Why wouldn't he take the UT job if was offered for say 7.5-8.0 Million dollars?

UT is said to be the best job in College Football. Austin is a great city to live in

Easy path to the MNC... Texas talent, deep pockets to build the best at whatever you can dream up, rich tradition

Tell us why would Saban stay at Alabama after giving them 7 great seasons?

He will have to break in a new QB..at Bama, and the expectations are, he will just win another championship every year... He doesn't like those terms... he likes building more than he likes maintaining..

The man wants one more challenge before he retires

Point is, the Sabans have (had?) a lake house when he was at LSU and they're into boating, etc. Not too ridiculous to think they'd buy a house on Lake Travis for something along those lines.

UT would have to go to probably ~20mil to get Bama out of the picture. We know UT has frick loads more money, but how high are they willing to go? That'll be the question.
