I know the rant is full of les miles crap, but I thought this article was great at showing how bad les is specifically with qb's. It also made a great point about alleva, after his hiring of two bad basketball coaches do we really trust him to find a replacement?

we don’t see getting rid of Miles as the solution. It isn’t. We say this, because if you get rid of Miles you’re putting your faith in Joe Alleva, LSU’s athletic director, to find a coach better than he is. Alleva’s major hires at LSU so far were Trent Johnson, the worst men’s basketball coaching hire in the modern history of the program, Nikki Caldwell, the grossly-overpaid and underachieving women’s basketball coach who this weekend saw her team blown out by Arkansas-Little Rock at home while the top player in Louisiana just signed with Baylor (LSU hasn’t signed a recruit so far in the early signing period), and current men’s hoops coach Johnny Jones, who might well end up as a good hire (the jury is definitely out on that question) but was given a $400,000 raise by Alleva after a 39-26 record, 18-18 in the SEC and no trips to the NCAA tournament.

"But since taking over the LSU program, Les Miles has not recruited and developed a single high school quarterback into an above average SEC player at the position. In fact, Miles’ record of quarterback recruiting and development has been quite possibly the worst in the SEC over the time period he’s been on the job in Baton Rouge."

He will end up like Will Muschamp. Florida suffered the same fate without a QB after Tebow left.

That paints a pretty bleak picture of where we are.

Interesting analysis.

quote:

The fact of the matter is that Miles might well be the most clueless coach in college or pro football when it comes to evaluation and use of quarterbacks.

That’s not a rash statement, nor is it an emotional one made after suffering through Anthony Jennings’ latest failure to generate more than 150 yards in the air – a streak which has now reached five games; six if you count the Auburn game Brandon Harris started.

It’s a statement made after watching Miles for 10 years.

The first three years of those 10, Miles had Jamarcus Russell and Matt Flynn at quarterback. He inherited Russell and Flynn from Nick Saban, along with Saban’s offensive coordinator and QB’s coach Jimbo Fisher. Russell ended up the first pick in the NFL draft, and Flynn is still in the league as one of its more reliable backup quarterbacks.

But since taking over the LSU program, Les Miles has not recruited and developed a single high school quarterback into an above average SEC player at the position. In fact, Miles’ record of quarterback recruiting and development has been quite possibly the worst in the SEC over the time period he’s been on the job in Baton Rouge.

Truth. And I think a new, simpler, modern offense would compensate for the chronic QB problems

Good article, but even beyond Miles' tenure, name the last NFL starter to come out of LSU. Yes, we've had players start. Yes, Mett could end up being a regular starter.

When was the last regular starter in the NFL from LSU? Bert Jones?

This state is so deep with running backs that coaches have ridden them for decades.

Maybe that's just not enough anymore. Maybe it's only enough to win 9-10 games a season.

Still, we've had some serviceable QBs since the run started in 2000. When we've had them, the team has won some championships. Maybe that's really all we need.

All these posters on here that keep arguing that fans are overacting and don't know what they are talking about when Miles is criticized about QB recruitment and development need to read this.

They have selective and revisionist memories. This couldn't be laid out for them in a clearer way.

Ya know. I can see people defending Miles. I can see them citing his record. I can see them talking about players in the NFL.....recruiting........etc etc

But anyone arguing that Miles is anything short of catastrophic for the QB position should just be tuned out as a moron.

Fantastic article. I've been saying this about Miles for a while, but that article goes way more in depth than I could possibly do.

You know what's sad? Overall Miles is a stellar coach. Can you imagine our game with our traditionally stout and fast D aligned with a great QB? That year we had mettenberger we were down on D. That one position of QB has been our biggest headache for the better part of a decade. Our fortunes could have been so much better had we been able to depend on that position.

We need to take a juco and also recruit one additional to the one Cam picked up for 2015.

Best article to date on Miles. He is totally inept at any decisions related to The QB position and at the very least should have this reflected in his job performance review and put on probation with clauses that will reduce his salary if issue is not fixed

You people are totally clueless.....let's get rid of the coach who had us in the SEC West title race until the last 20 seconds of the Bama game with a young team and subpar QB play. If you didn't expect some growing pains this year, particularly early, you're kidding yourself. Guys realize that even if we had Joe Montana behind center in the Auburn and Mississippi St. games we would have lost due to our defense which hadn't gelled.

This may be the dumbest thing I've ever seen posted on this board, and that's truly saying something.
