Never attended LSU, born 1974 in Shreveport and moved to AR. at the of 15. I pride myself on the color of my blood, purple & gold.

My daughter starts at Starkville in a week and she swears she will not stop wearing her LSU Tshirts and will return any Miss St shirts she is given. (I told her it was ok to be a Bulldog too and to have school spirit. Just don't get carried away). I grew up in BR , left for school and returned to BR for work and took some night classes at LSU. The classes did not make me a bigger fan!!

She can be a bulldog, but tell her don't be ashamed to put on that purple and gold. Alot of State fans don't care about LSU. They just hate OM.

To answer this thread, LSU is a school for the people and by the people of the great state of LA. It doesn't make anyone less of a fan for not attending LSU.

What people don't realize, is that IF alot of people who went to school at other places cheered for their respective schools, that would hurt LSU. Then, they don't want to send their kids to LSU, and this would also affect recruiting b/c you would have less of a fanbase in other parts of the state. I think LSU has a nice thing going in LA. Let's keep it that way.

One more thing, i do think LSU fans get a bad rap by other schools when they say "most of the fans at LSU didn't even go there, blah, blah, blah." Yea, but it's like that everywhere you shitheads. That shite burns me up when i hear some backwards arse frick say that.

Our middle child graduated from SLU last year. She went there because SLU gave her a scholarship in addition to her TOPS. However, everyone thought she went to LSU because she always wears LSU shirts.

For her college graduation party she would not allow me to decorate with green or gold or lions!

She was born a Tiger fan and nothing will change that!

Well put Stro!! I spent two plus years in the late 80's there (on top of being born and raised in Baton Rouge) but graduated from UNF here in Jacksonville. I do wish my degree said "Louisana State University" on it, but most members of the LSU club over here will tell you that there is no bigger Tiger fan over here than me.

I will not be attending LSU simply because they do not offer the major I plan on completing.

But I consider myself a real LSU fan. I bleed purple and gold.

I grew up in BR, then moved to Monroe and am now going to Louisiana Tech in Ruston(didnt make it to LSU) I have always been, always will be an LSU tiger... I will support La Tech because I do go to school there however, my life would not be the same if i was not an LSU Tiger. I might now ever know what it's like to live under the oaks at LSU, but I have invested countless hours on that campus and in front of the TV watching.

Sometimes it bothers me the way some LT and ULL people act toward LSU, it's not as bad at LT but some people are jealous and I wish they wouldnt be. Oh well, they will never know what it's like to have the feeling you get from being a tiger

My rant is over

You went to another college?

I'll answer that question with an unadulterated "YES" for myself. But, I am wondering how LSU fans who went to LSU view those of us who went to other schools for different reasons. My family was from Louisiana for generations and I was born in Louisiana, but I grew up just over the state line in Mississippi. When college time came around, I went to MSU because of in state tuition, but pulled for LSU the whole time. But there is still a place in my heart for MSU and they are my second favorite team.

How do other fans deal with a true allegiance to LSU, but a secondary allegiance to your alma mater?

thats nuts... im from Opelousas and moved to MS in 95 with my family. im about to start my senior year at Moo st, and just for the exact same reason.... in state tuition. i drove to 6 games in baton rouge last year, without tickets in hand, (i got tickets there) from starkvegas and then to atlanta for the SEC champ. i skipped meals to save money so i could afford the gas and other expenses.

to say that a person has to attend the university to be a real fan is just ignorant.

I was at Miss. St. back during the Curley Hallman days at LSU. When LSU would come to Starkville, I'd stand in the student section of State and cheer for LSU, although a bit quieter than I would otherwise. My friends were always frustrated with me and didn't understand. Of course, it was the Curley Hallman days, so it was difficult to explain it to them, but to his credit, he never lost to State.

I was a pretty big State fan too, and I still follow them and pull for them. However, when LSU and Miss. St. play, I'm all purple and gold. If State was ever good enough to compete with LSU for the SEC West, I'd want them to lose every significant game. But, if there's a team that would have to win it besides LSU, of course it would be State over Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, etc.

Great feedback on this thread. I'm a huge LSU fan in the midst of Alabama and Auburn fans here in Alabama and am used to going it alone, pretty much. That's why this board is an oasis for me. I'll be an LSU fan till I die and whether I went to school there or not does not affect that. I was just wondering what LSU fans who went to school there thought about it.

put it this way... do you think that 4 or 5 years of college can erase 18 years of upbringing? I think not, I get this at work all of the time. I have 2 degrees from a college about 60 miles west of LSU and the only reason i did is bc i took highschool about as seriously as LSU takes the football team of the college i went to. It makes me no less of a fan of my tigers.

We discussed this around the water cooler w/the ignorant Little Dozen fans in Texas. They have no clue what a fan is. They will never understand LSU means to the state of Louisiana.

Read through this thread again to get your answer. Being a fan of LSU is about family and the state of Louisiana.

I am a proud alum and fan. Anybody with p&g on is my friend.

SouthEastern is more passionate about LSU sports than LSU students

Ditto BRCC, but they don't count

I say if you or your family ever lived & worked & paid taxes(esp) in Louisiana you have as much of an identifiable vested interest in LSU as anyone. Those who chose to embrace it are welcome regardless of where they were educated.

Well, I guess that's the difference between me and you. I love everything about the campus, and I'll never forget the great times I had all over that place. It's not just about football, it's really about another way of life that I'll never forget.

You are probably one of the fans that was pulling for LSU to beat your own school when they were playing each other last year. Or even worse, one of the guys who shows up to a Tech home game wearing the colors purple ans gold. Makes me want to vomit.

i dont quite agree with what you are trying to say. its not just the football that i enjoy at LSU. Yea i have never been to any classes or any functions other than sporting events in BR, but LSU is the flagship university that represents me, my family, and my home state. i love the tradition and the culture that surounds the university and state... not just the football

Now... if LSU would just start a distance degree program for all those people from out-of-state who can't get to Baton Rouge, then you'll just keep expanding that LSU base on and on and on and on....

No reason that LSU can't offer what Florida offers in distance learning.
