Sure, how many of the 92000 in the stands actually GRADUATED from LSU?

I attended Northeast Louisiana University, LSUA, and McNeese State and I can say I bleed purple and gold. I was accepted into LSU my freshman year and went to Northeast to ease the tuition/room & board costs on my parents. I've been a Tiger fan since I was 8 years old and went to my first game which was 30 years ago. It really stings when my one of my best friends throws it out there that he went to LSU and I didn't. He didn't even graduate from there (1 year). LSU belongs to the whole state as a source of pride and inspiration. I think it's great for kids to go get an education from such an incredible institution but to say that is a prerequisite for a being a Tiger fan would be ridiculous.

you can still be a fan of a college team even if you didn't go there.....just a lesser fan than someone that actually attended the university and is also a fan. I certainly look down on "fans" that didn't go to school at LSU.

Just an example of what it's like attending another school but loving LSU. I watched the Earthquake game at NLU in a dorm room with some of my buddies. When we scored the room went wild, but we heard a huge racket outside. There were Tiger fans coming out of 75% of the rooms in Sherrouse and Olin dorms screaming Geaux Tigers. LSU has fans at every college in the state because it is the state school and until recently with the Saints and Hornets it was the only thing in sports worth cheering for on a major level.

Even as an LSU alumni, I'd answer this question with a resounding yes.

I live and breathe LSU and all it comes with it and I have no ties to the school or the state. I spend my money on their athletic program every year.and every year I try to make it to at least 1-2 football games a year and coming from Ga. thats 14+ hours round trip in a weekend. and my National Championship flags fly in my yard year round.my countdown till football season started in Jan.

Absolutely you are a fan!

Check my pulse and blood pressure on game day, then tell me I'm not a huge fan because I didn't attend school at LSU.

And I'm on the rant... that's gotta count for something as well.

You can be a fan, but some of the non-graduates take it too far. I'm not a big fan of the "we" term in reference to teams, as in "we" won or "we" can run the ball, etc. I just find a lot of people that didn't attend LSU feel a little self-conscious about their status and therefore feel the need to use those terms too much. Also, I find some those that didn't attend have false expectations of the game experience and generally act too much the fool during games.

Definetly. My paw paw is the biggest LSU fan & didn't spend one day in college. He can't sleep if the Tigers lose. LSU is much bigger than just the school. It really does represent the people of the entire state.

Agree 100%. Growing up in LA you grow up with LSU always being a big deal. You grow up cheering for them in all sports, even when they're not winning. That's just the way it is down here. That's the reason why we've cheered for the Saints our whole lives (most of us anyway). That's our team, for better or (usually) worse. We're with them til the end.

I know I am a die hard fan and have never attended LSU...instead I went straight to the Marine Corps after High School. While stationed in California I became a much bigger fan because it was the only taste of Louisiana sports that I was able to get out there because of CBS(The Saints were never on there unless they were playing the Chargers). Anyone who knows me or meets me understands that I am a die hard and I've been to just about every game since returning home in 2004. Many of my tailgating friends who have graduated from LSU accept me as a "true fan". Since getting out of the Corps I've got my degree online from the University of Phoenix and hopefully one day I'll have the time to go back and get my Masters from LSU then that way there will be no question about it.......

of course.

I almost went to LaTech because I was considering Architecture and at the time they were one of the best Architecture schools in the country.

I'd been born and bred for 18 years into LSU football by then, however. A tiger can't change its stripes.

I wound up going to LSU and I do agree with the dude who said there is an extra special connection if you did attend. Doesn't make you more of a fan, though.

On the flipside, I have a graduate degree from UT-Austin and probably wouldn't pee on Mack Brown if he were on fire.
