Saban and his Alabama team has lucky the last 2 years.

Auburn and Tennessee should have beaten them but the Referees screwed them.

LSU had no such luck this past season..

The reality is that we won't be happy until we have another coach of Saban's caliber and intensity.

Saban is a good coach, and I think not so mercenary as he is cast.

The one thing he (Saban) and other who are not LSU fans don't understand is this:

LSU hired Saban to raise LSU's stature in college football.

I had no beef with Saban going to the Dolphins, or even for leaving the Dolphins and going back to college football, or going back to the SEC.

The problem is that by going to Alabama, Saban is undoing everything LSU paid him for. That strikes me as more than a little not living up to the spirit of his original commitment to LSU.

One other thing Nick doesn't understand or appreciate. He talks about all the good he did for LSU as if it were a one-way street. He fails to acknowledge that he Nick Saban was made by the opportunity LSU offered him, something MSU could never offer. He was a small-time coach that LSU made into a big-time coach.

I still think Nick is one of the best coaches ever, but he is obviously ego-centric and ungrateful at least as much as he seems to think LSU fans are ungrateful

I don't think LSU fans are giving Miles enough credit. He won the BCS 3 years after Saban left. Saban won the BCS at Bama 3 years after Mike Shula was fired. I don't hear anyone saying that Saban won the BCS with Shula's players. Seems like a double standard to give Saban so much credit for LSU's BCS championship in '07.

You gonna tell me with a straight face, Mike Shula would have coached Bama to a MNC in 2009? Nick Saban won with SOME of Shulas players. Mark Ingram, Julio Jones, Trent Richardson, Terrace Cody, Rolando McClain, Marcel Dareus, Mark Barron, Kareem Jackson and half the O-line. Not Shula players.

This.

People don't understand that when we say we'd take Saban back in a heartbeat, that's with the understanding that it would probably never happen. But if we were to get somebody that's even somewhat close to his style and can speak straight up and back up his speech with action, well then LSU fans would absolutely embrace that coach with open arms.

Even if Miles were to win an SEC and/or National Championship, I will never feel the same about him again and will wish he'd just leave.

I can spot a bullshitter a mile away, and he is definitely a bullshitter. And I have no patience for people like that.

no always liked saban wish he was still at L S U we just might have two more championships with him. think about it.there are coaches suited for the NFL and their are those suited for COLLEGE. he thought he was an NFL Coach OR WANTED TO TRIE TO BE ONE. this is the nature of the beast in that line of work. i think if les would have left for the mich. job. saban would have and L.S.U admin.would have kissed and made up and all you haters out there would be calling him king of coaches in college football.

While I am not a MILES hater, I can not help but admire Saban's ability to build character and team chemistry in his college players....Sure, he was a great coach at LSU but honestly, I HOPE HE NEVER WINS ANOTHER GAME at alabama.

I never blamed Saban for pursuing his NFL dream. I'm convinced had he stayed at LSU we'd have a third crystal ball but his decision to leave was one he was entitled to make.

Godfather1,

I respect your opinion on this matter and generally agree. However, I would offer this perspective.

You are correct, most people will change jobs for an increase in pay. However, for most working folks who spend their hard earned dollars supporting LSU athletics in general and LSU football specifically, changing a job for an increase in pay from, say, maybe $60,000/year to, let's say, $100,000 per year is a definite lifestyle change.

However, a pay increase from $2 million per year and to say $4 million per year is not a lifestyle change for the recipient, it's certainly means there is more money in the bank for ones great-grandchildren, though.

I am now a partner in a business in a profession in which I was once an employee. I compete with a former employer who I respect and admire. While he paid me for my services and he made money off of the work I performed (at this point, some might say we're even), I do not seek or perform work in my current business from clients of my former employer as I believe I do owe him the respect for having not only paid me, but for giving me the opportunity to perform my profession.

Here in lies what I believe is the crux of this situation for most LSU fans. I believe that most LSU fans are grateful for what Coach Saban accomplished at LSU. And I believe most fans have no issues with his professional desire to coach at the next level. However, most LSU fans truly don't hate THAT he left, but rather HOW he left. He lacked the character to stand before the fans in Baton Rouge and explain his desire to coach in the NFL nor was there much gratitude shown for what LSU did for him (and yes, I whole heartedly believe that LSU and Louisiana athletes did as much to create the Saban aura as Saban did in building the program).

Then, I don't necessarily agree, but a lot of fans believe there was a huge disrespect shown by returning to, not only the SEC, but to a divisional rival. He most certainly could have shown respect by being loyal to the commitment he made to the Dolphin franchise and it's owner (where, by the way, he was making a tremendous amount of money) by waiting an additional year when he could have gone to another high profile university. In other words, the Alabama job nor the associated salary was not a lifestyle change for Coach Saban. Couple this with the fact that he made his grand debut into Tuscaloosa on the very day LSU was playing in the Sugar bowl and then was announced as the new Alabama Head Coach at the first home basketball game, which, by the way, was against LSU all adds to a series of disrespectful acts by a seemingly ungrateful individual who was once revered by many people in the State of Louisiana.

Anyway, just my observation.

Excellently stated! But you'll never get the Sabanistas to grasp that simple concept.
