Dude, you love kids? Really? Then why, even if there was any truth to this, which there's not, why would you attempt to substantiate something like this that could be harmful? Cmon.

And I've already read your posts. It's not hard to figure out what you're insinuating. You're incorrect. But whatever, I'm not gonna argue with you about this anymore. Take care.

I am surprised that this doesn't happen more often with athletes. I wasn't an athlete in college but I became home sick, depressed, stressed out , and fell very hard when my girlfriend broke off the two year relationship two days before final exams.

College is difficult as it is but these young men work extremely hard in practice and other training. I admire such a committment !

I was a college athlete whose playing career was derailed because I refused to stop smoking things that were illegal. I didn't have a pro career to look forward to (maybe overseas, but I had no interest in that and wasn't NBA or even D-league material).

It took me a long time to get my shite togetger, grow up and gain some perspective on what is important in life.

I am in no position to judge any student athlete who encounters bumps in the road, whatever they may be.

I hope for Arden's sake he takes care of his business and goes on to have a lucrative pro career.

Hopefully he'll play for LSU this season, but getting himself right is far more important.

ETA: The flip side is I wouldn't have wound up at LSU had I not been kicked off the team after 1.5 years at my original school. My experience at LSU is something I wouldn't trade for anything.

And even though all the knights are jumping down everybody's throats who speculate this, smoking weed would be the best thing this could turn out to be. We should WANT it to be weed. Because that can be overcome. It's infinitely better than a death or serious illness in his family, legal troubles, alcohol addiction, whatever other scenarios we could invent to explain this cryptic leave of absence.

However, if what 87 said about testing policy is accurate (2nd test fail = 1 game, 3rd = 1 year), would that mean he's got to be gone until February 2018? I'm not sure how they could get around it. And if they can't, it could turn into a Tyran Mathieu situation where he sits his 3rd year and then bounces to the league having only graced us with 2 seasons of watching him. I hope that's not the case.

Regardless, I wish him the best. Whatever is happening, he appears to be attacking it with a tremendous--and impressively mature--attitude. Good luck to him and godspeed.

I might be in the minority but I think LSU's weed policy is rather Draconian. Times are changeing regarding weed and the stigma attached to it.

What you're forgetting is mathieu was suspended after failing about 10

Regardless what policy said ... it's not for everyone

You get around it by not telling anyone that it happened. Let him know that his get out of jail cards are used up and if he wants to be a top 10 pick he will quit taking that risk. Rules are different for people that are great at something.

agree with this.....my 2 cents....fwiw, is that it has to be something like weed, because during the offseason, there is NO reason to announce he is going home to take care of personal matters. None at all! He could have gone home for a month and nobody would know any better. Furthermore, LSU has usually gone on record when there is a death in the family and asked for public support. So that doesn't seem to be the case either.

What I said is absolutely the LSU policy. However, that does not mean the policy is always followed.....

The NCAA actually does not require schools to have it's own drug testing program and policy. However, as stupid as this sounds, if a school does institute a policy, they are then forced by the NCAA to follow it.

BUT, it is impossible for the NCAA to know if the policy is being followed, because they can't pull the drug testing records that the schools conduct themselves.
