QB play hasn't improved at all since the beginning of the season. the rest of the team has significantly improved.

We are definitely better but I still have concerns if our defense can stop bama and ark running games.

Running QBs have hurt us. Sims is no Prescott or Marshall, but he can run. I'm sure the read option will be a big part of their gameplan. And then there is Cooper. That is my concern with Bama.

Ark is more like us with a power running game and a poor passing game. Assuming we don't have a mental letdown, and that's a real concern, we'll be fine.

Yes, the win over Ole Miss was huge and the UK blowout was nice, but you've got to look at the entire body of work.

We got pounded by Auburn
We got pounded by Miss St. (ignore the final score, that was an arse-whipping)
We barely beat a bad Florida team

I like that we're on the upswing, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. If we follow-up the Ole Miss win and beat Bama, the committee will really take notice and we'll make a big jump.

I think we are improved but UF, UK, and Ole Miss aren't the same offenses that MSU & Auburn were.

UK has a very potent offense. They put points and yards in bunches against UF and Miss St. Ole Miss is no juggernaut, but they were averaging 280 passing yards a game. Before they played us, they had the 15th ranked scoring offense, averaging 39.5 ppg.

So although they aren't top 10 total offenses, both had high scoring and high passing offenses before playing us.

I agree. We have come along way since Auburn. I will be the first to say I never thought we would win 3 in a row...I was worried we may not win another game til 2015.

I still wish we could improve the passing game like we have our defense.

We are now the team I expected this year. I thought we would have difficulties at QB, and was ok with that. I knew we would play a ton of young players and make some mistakes, and I was ok with that. I thought our O-Line would be dominant, and was disappointed early in the year when we could not consistently block. I thought our defense would be dominant and was disappointed when we were so often out of position to make plays early in the year.

Now that our O-Line and defense are playing as expected, we are where I would have expected.

we really didn't get "pounded" as much as we gave up some very big plays and left the defense on the field way too long. Obviously State and Aubie have really good offenses, and may have better teams overall. However, much of the outcomes of those games were self-inflicted, scheme and personnel issues that have come a long way since then.

2 things to go look at, in the Miss State game Welter and Beckwith largely alternated quarters, Welter in the 1st and 3rd, Beckwith in the 2nd and 4th. State scored 28 points in the 1st and 3rd, 6 in the 2nd and 4th. Next, go through the drive charts for the Auburn game and look at their running plays. If I recall, about half or slightly more went for less than 4 yards.

I always love this one......so if we had completed that last play, we would not have counted the win right? LOL....or if Ole Miss would have completed that last play they wouldn't really have won right? You guys...lol

So, it was ok for Mich State to lose by 21 points right? It was ok for Georgia to lose to a bad SC team right? I'm sure there are more examples, maybe Ohio State losing to a terrible Va Tech team....

the fact is that a very young LSU team got drummed on the road at auburn....starting a freshmen qb that looking back, probably should not have been doing......other than that, they have won every game, and the only other loss was a single digit loss to Miss State where LSU had a chance to win in the end, and it is also the closest anyone has played MSU this year........gotcha...

I won't argue semantics, but the whole feel of this season changed after the Florida game.

Yep. A lot of Tiger fans were just late in recognizing the shift. Some, of course, are still hoping LSU will falter so that they can be right. Sad, sad, bunch.

this is the game where I thought the OL and DL began to get better....the score didn't reflect it but we had a lot of positive running plays...only to be killed off by our qb play. The defense was on the field forever....they gave up some big plays eventually....but they were making a lot of stops....while everyone else saw a blowout, I saw a team that started to turn the corner in this game......I doubt it would have been this bad had Jennings started...but we still wouldn't have come close to winning.

going into the florida game I just wanted a win...no matter how it came about...I had posted on here that a win there, then come back home and beat KY, handily, and this team would be building some serious confidence. I don't think there is any question now that they are loaded with confidence......next game will be interesting. IF LSU comes out and whips bama....watch out.....we will start getting a lot of attention. Think reverse, if it were bama that started like us, and all of the sudden they turned it on and started whipping top 5 teams...the media would be screaming it's all about the BEST 4 teams at the end of the season...and bama is one of the best...etc....you know it and I know it.

Exactly but we are not the media darling that Bama is and therefore won't get the same amount of love no matter how much we whine or win.

That is really really oversimplifying it and you know it. I guess it's easy to revise history and credit whole quarters to your preferred MLB several weeks later after everyone dropped the game from their DVR. Both MLB's (and the whole defense) looked bad until the Florida game, and really the whole defense started playing better then. The offense getting better had a little to do with it too.

Beckwith is playing much better now but to go back to the beginning of the season and imply that things would have been different if he played the whole game against Miss St is just BS.

You lost me here.

ETA: Unless you meant consistently below average. With your tone though I initially assumed you meant a good consistent.

The outcome likely wouldn't have changed but there was a noticeable difference when he was in the game, particularly in the 2nd quarter when State was up 17-3. Looking at the additional stats, MSU was 5 for 7 on 3rd down conversions in the 1st and 3rd, and 0 for 7 in the 2nd and 4th quarters.

They whipped us, that is for sure....but I have a hard time saying be got destroyed in a game that we could have actually won on the last play of the game. One play gets completed, and LSU wins....I understand where you are at on this....fwiw, I don't think that game at all represents the team we are today.

I just find it amusing that the negatigers love to focus on the Auburn and Miss State games, despite the fact that LSU has grown up tremendously during the year. Also, the QB play has improved. We have the ability now to complete third and long plays, which I'm not sure we did before. Some people can't see the big picture on this team...or they simply refuse to admit it. My personal opinion is that Jennings is better than JJ, and while I know that is not hard to accomplish, we were able to win with him at qb. I see no reason to think Jennings will not continue to improve, and I would not be shocked if he had a really good game against bama's secondary.
