Anyone think the coaches are a bit clueless when it comes to Shepard?

IMO, he has always been a much better runner than receiver...and using him just like we used Trindon Holliday would be PERFECT for him.
Instead we've seen the coaches always struggle to find ways to get him the ball. Whether it's watching him struggle in the receiving game or see 1-2 carries at most in a single game...they decided to try and use him as an every down back for the first time on Saturday with 8 carries when he was in which was also a misuse of his talent.
Just baffles me they cant figure him out. He deserves 3-5 carries a game typically as Trindon got as a change of pace back. He's not a grinding back, and he's worth more than 10-15 carries all year to be even more effective.

He's at the wrong school. He should be a QB somewhere.

Hard to blame the coaches when Shep never figured out how to run routes or catch the football.
The backfield is too crowded with talent to feature Shep at RB.

he just never broke out, not the first time its happened to a heavily recruited athlete.

Quite possibly the most under-utilized player in the history of LSU football - considering the hype and talent he had entering college. Fact is he was too under-sized for running back and not good enough hands for go-to wide receiver. Very skilled with the ball in his hands. I don't get it either. Just ONCE in his LSU career can they run a reverse with option to throw! I would like to see him throw just 1 frickin pass - even if it's back across the field to Mett for a walk-in 10 yard TD run.

I dont think you read what I said at all. 3-5 carries a game is not a "feature back"

This I agree with, if we ran Rich Rod's offense when he had Pat White...could make for an electrifying player. Simple short quick passing game with tons of running/zone reads. Then hit a wide open deep pass.

What was his average YPC the other night compared to the other backs?
For some reason I'm always much more disappointed when he only runs for a couple of yards than I am when someone like Hill only runs for a couple. I think he has always suffered from unrealistic expectations and still does, even from people like me who think he has been absolutely screwed by this coaching staff.

I just hope he doesn't resent LSU. I still say that he would have destroyed at Oregon.

He's run harder in the last two games than he did the entire rest of his career. It's been nice to see, but I can't help but think his touches would have been more if he'd started doing that earlier.

2009 - 45 carries, 277 yards, 6.2 ypc, 2 TD
2010 - 32 carries, 226 yards, 7.1 ypc, 2 TD
Then he disappeared. That goes on the coaches. They started him off well then just forgot about him.

I don't know. He has flashes, but sometimes I just don't think he knows what he's doing. I enjoy him in the coverage teams though, he's made at least 2 great saving tackles this year. Maybe he should've been a db? He does make some catches, but then he'll drop the easy ones. He is effective in the run game, but how can you justify handing him the ball when you got the stable of backs we do? He seems like a jack of all trades, master of none deal. I don't think he would have done any better at any other school. It isn't necessarily the system, it is the player.
I think he could have success in the future, if an NFL team gives him a chance. He needs to further develop his hands and with his ability to play on special teams, he could catch on somewhere. I still don't know why he isn't returning punts or kickoffs.

No question, but Chip Kelly's first season at Oregon was Shep's freshman year.. there was no telling that his offense would have been a perfect fit at that point in time.

I agree that he was underutilized or whatever, but if he could catch balls that hit him right in the hands, he would have had a decent impact on some games.

I'm sorry but anyone who thinks he could have been any good at QB anywhere is kidding themselves.
I'd say denard Robinson is a pretty terrible passer and Shep isn't even on his level

You just answered your own question. If he's effective, then why not?
The first 2 years he had about 3-4ish carries a game and averaged 6-7 yards per carry.

I agree. He would tear up alot of those pathetic Pac-12 "defenses"...Guess we'll never know though.
