All you have to do is call your credit card company and say it's not a legit charge.

October 1st, New rules went into place to protect card holders. It's not a face to face swiped transaction using the new criteria, so disputes are almost automatically won by the cardholder when this is the case.

Obviously you have no status with anyone. It does help in situations like this.

Tell him a family with a submerged house in Columbia would gladly switch places with him.

Hotels can't charge you until you stay. You are well within the 48 hour window to cancel hotel penalty.

I've been in Hotel Operations for over 15 years, and that is not true. A Hotel often has various policies based on an event, time of year, etc. As long as the policy is clearly stated, they can actually charge full amount whenever the policy states.

Having said that, most hotels will be more than willing to reverse the charge, especially if the room will not sit empty. In this case, seems they need the rooms for help anyway.

Every other LSU fan is happy to have a home game make up for the canceled game.

That sucks. I nearly planned to go to the game and make a vacation of it.

I called and canceled our hotel. They said it didn't matter because first responders were filling the hotel anyway. American Airlines says that Columbia is in an unaffected area. They want me to pay $200 per ticket to change our flight and get the credit for the flight. Luckily, I bought cancellation insurance for the first time ever. They are covering that cost. So, all in all, I'm ok. Just might not get my season ticket spot.

I cant believe how many people cant talk their way into refunds. Geez. You speak politely, do not demand anything. You ask what can they do not what will they do. Always speak to a person in the escalation department IF the person is unwilling to do anything. But once again dont be rude.

People are idiots. Airline employees and hotel employees are two of the most screamed-at people, so when they encounter respectful people, they'll do anything they can for you.

Arrived at a hotel during a big event a few hours before checkin time, and they weren't letting anyone go to their rooms after checking in yet because they had been at full capacity the night before and the rooms were not all clean. The lobby was filled with people bitching. I went to the check in desk to check in and leave my bags.. and the girl told me I would not be able to get into my room like everyone else. Of course, I told her that was perfectly okay... and by simply being kind to the girl and chatting about our outfits while she was checking me in, she "stumbled upon a clean room" for me when she finished checking me in.

It isn't hard, people. Calling someone with a big chip on your shoulder will never get you shite.

My coworker was just saying they never buy trip insurance, but for some odd reason, they bought it for this trip. And now everything is covered.

If you booked through the hotel, you're fine either way.

I also have a companion pass and A+ preffered status with SW. Used to work in the big 4, so I know plenty about travelling and canceling hotels

Marriots policy is 24 hours before and even up to 6pm same day sometimes. I know because I've had to do it countless times.

But congrats on your status for letting you do something any can do

From an email from Marriott:

quote:

You may cancel your reservation for no charge until Saturday, August 8, 2015 (1 day[s] before arrival).

Please note that we will assess a fee of 218.93 CAD if you must cancel after this deadline.

If you have made a prepayment, we will retain all or part of your prepayment. If not, we will charge your credit card.

So no, your status with marriott didn't help at all

You do realize this wasn't a normal weekend in Columbia, and hotels often have these policies in place. Well, I guess you actually don't.

Big 4... oooo that explains it all.

We booked this trip so far in advance it made me nervous. My wife actually had the best point that the game was in SC, during hurricane season, and most hurricanes have been turning that way instead of coming to us. I expect her to be giving me the old told you so forever on this one.

Not likely for marriott which is using an international policy. Especially when they don't have drinkable water right now

And I've had no issues canceling hotels for games in the past. Your status had nothing to do with, all I'm saying

But feel free to post the policy on the bottom of your reservation/confirmation email

And yea, you learn about about travel when you're on the road every week for 3 months straight. Main reason I left.

I was scheduled to day in Charleston tomorrow night. Please review that Marriott property's policy:

My Marriott in Syracuse two weeks ago was 7 days before arrival. Fairfield Inn in Auburn last year was 31 days before arrival. My JW Marriott in Houston last week was 3 days before arrival.

I can keep going...but cancellation policies will vary based on the hotel, rate booked, special event clauses, or occupancy rate.
