I can't believe how many dudes are on here whining that we shouldn't be top 8 and Arkansas is about to sweep.

I think we pull one from Arkansas, but do you honestly think LSU is one of the best 8 teams in the country right now?

Agreed.

Maybe in the only one or I'm drinking the Koolaid but I this is the best team since 2017 outside of the 2023 squad.

You might very well be correct, but there’s not much that supports that at the moment.
quote:

I don't think Milam is going to stay in this slump, I think Tommy white will hit his stride, I like the play of Ethan Frye, Josh Pearson is coming on strong, Jared Jones would have had 2 more jacks this weekend without that wild wind, Travinskis tearing the seams off the ball, mac is playing well. We have a deep staff and a top flight Friday guy.

Here the thing, you just named all of those guys that are playing well, and we are still losing games and getting run ruled. We need other guys to step up as well and not many of them are doing so. Also think it’s becoming clear that the pitching staff isn’t as deep as many of of thought, at least not right now.

TLDR: I agree that the team isn’t done improving, but to act like it’s a given that they will figure it all out this season is dumb. This team has some major problems that they need to figure out. If they do, they will end up being very good, if they don’t, it will be a long season. It is what it is

I’m still of the opinion that he really isn’t struggling as bad as the numbers suggest.
He’s not striking out much. He’s just hitting some unlucky balls.

We knew going into this season the offense would have growing pains.
I just had more faith in the pitching staff this year.

Not nearly as bad as people are saying.

There are some roster flaws present that I think can be coached around, that Jay hasn’t been able to yet.

Need to play better defense.

Offensively, They are learning quick that they cannot win games in the manner they did last year. Sit around & wait for a 3R HR. They will need to find ways to manufacture runs a little easier. It might mean giving some other players a chance

No. You’re not. Our pitching is improving. Now if we can get some productive at bats from Kling, Milam, and Neal….we’re much more interesting. With this pitching class, 7 runs should be enough to win. Would like more but let’s start there.

No, you're not. D1 Baseball has them at #8.

Anyone who watches baseball knows teams usually have bad stretches, this is a very good team that is playing poorly in a few aspects. It happens.

I agree with the body of your OP, but not this title. I could even get on board with "...that thinks this WILL still be a really good baseball team." But at this point, I'm leaning more towards "...that thinks this CAN still be a really good baseball team."

I just don't see how you can say they are currently a "really good baseball team." A really good team--in any sport--is better than the sum of its parts. Right now, this team is the opposite--the parts are better than the sum. But that's encouraging, because it means we do have the parts. Unfortunately, a lot of other schools do too, and some of their parts are more proven than ours right now. They're older.

There's time, but it's running out. Jay's gonna have to eventually just pick a couple guys, put them in the lineup every day, and let them ride. Can't keep rotating 5-6 guys in the OF and at DH. The young guys need the consistent ABs to develop into what they'll need to be for us as good as we can be to make a run.

This team definitely has a chance to make it to Omaha and that’s all you could ask for after losing the amount of talent from last year’s team.
I don’t think people realize that so much of post season success in baseball is about getting hot and a little luck.

So a few Nancy's have you all hot and bothered? It's too early in the season to have a meltdown. We are the contending National Champs and everyone is gunning for this team.Let things play out and enjoy your weekends!

This was always going to be a tough stretch of the schedule, and we have a young team. Will be interesting to see how they bounce back over the next few weeks.

Pearson is an SEC guy. He only hits SEC pitching

This ^^^. I don't understand it but he has struggled in weaker competition the last two years but once the SEC and post season play comes he comes up with clutch hits. He is just a gamer. He is someone that needs to be in the lineup and in the field because of his presence.

Also Ethan Frey is another guy that needs to be in the lineup consistently. The biggest disappointment has been Kling but he has the talent just hasn't figured it out yet. But once he does we will take off. And if he doesn't then hopefully one of the younger guys steps up. Jake Brown or Larson.

Putting aside the 2-4 SEC start, including being BLOWNOUT in two games……like Bertman, Kelly, Saban, Mulkey, etc…..LSU’s Baseball management is par excellent.

Growing pains and piecing together a talented group will trend in our favor.

We have a very challenging SEC early-schedule

Sure, but you don't have an 11 inning game decide a series and say the team who lost goes from good to bad

Baseball is a long season. You don't have the urgency as much as you do in Football. Would you like to start off better.. of course. Once the temps warm up and this team starts to gel they will be fine.
