Looks like LSU's sweep took the COY award away from Canizaro

They only took 2 relief pitchers in total. Kind of surprised me, thought it was more than that.

Starting Peterson concerns me. It is a big gamble.

It is the same argument as the first game of the regional. Do you start a second line pitcher and save your aces for tougher competition for later? Everyone's answer in the past has been go for the wins while you can.

The first game of the SECT theoretically will be a tougher opponent than the first game of a regional as 1 seed. And the opponent would have won their first game from the day before. Also, the opponent may have a chip on its shoulder thinking that LSU doesn't have enough respect to start an ace.

What is Paul's Plan B if Peterson doesn't cut the mustard in the early innings? Pitching by committee the rest of the game using Hess, Beck, Gilbert, etc.? I understand the idea behind starting Peterson but LSU doesn't need to fool around and lose the first game or use up arms needed for later.

Nah, Mingione had it all along. Kentucky was picked in pre-season to finish in the bottom half of the East Division just above Tennessee and Missouri.

No it's not.

The plan is to set up pitching for the regional. Throwing one of our 3 main starters wednesday after the work they got last weekend is just irresponsible. Even on Thursday, Lange will likely be on a lower pitch count regardless of what happens Wednesday.

Who would you start then? None of our starters have had enough rest.

Also the opponent may have started their ace the day before in a single-elimination game that they had to win.

He's the douchebag that yelled from the 1B coaches box for Katz to cut off the relay throw and it made sure one of his team's runners scored.

I fully expect Peterson to be pulled at the 1st time of trouble and Hess will come in and mow motherfuchers down, like a boss.

ETA: Doesn't really matter though, bats are gonna smoke whatever faggie takes the bump.

Cole Freeman leads the SEC Champions ("Co" or otherwise) and West Division Champs in batting average, on-base percentage, fewest strikeouts and stolen bases and he gets nothing?

Seems legit.....

Lange, Poche, and Walker are out as options for game 1.

Bush threw 37 pitches on Saturday
Gilbert threw 27 on Saturday and 23 on Friday
Hess threw 56 pitches on Friday and 15 on Thursday

Not a lot of options outside asking our more reliable pitchers to go on short rest right before the NCAAT

Maybe. But like UK, MSU was picked to finish 4th in their division. If MSU wins 2/3, they finish with the same record as UK. Throw in the fact that MSU lost virtually half of their pitching staff due to injury, and it would have been hard to say Cannizaro didn't do an outstanding job. You're splitting hairs of course, but until the sweep this past weekend Cannizaro was very much in the running.

No, it's a calculated decision based giving proper rest for your real rotation going into the real post-season after the SECT. We pitched Lange on Friday 2 weeks ago, Thursday last week and now would pitch him Wednesday this week...only to throw him Saturday next week. Just keep Lange/Poche/Walker on their normal rest. It's a double elimination tournament so if you lose game 1 we go right back to Lange in game 2, and have our best pitchers ahead while others may not. The SECT isn't really meaningful to us. We go 1-2, we're almost a lock for a national seed still. It would be pretty tough to go 0-2 with Lange certainly pitching.

Peterson had a really good last outing, and it would be nice to see if he's a guy we can rely on in post-season play or not at this point. Invariably if we lost a regional game, or CWS game, we're going to need a guy like him to eventually get us through a team to win a title or win the regional.

Right now we know Lange, Poche and Walker are our 1-2-3 guys. We know if we probably had to start someone for a game 4 it's probably Gilbert...you still want to get a 5th starter potentially sniffed out, and that could be Peterson for us.

lets compare his stats to the 2B who were on the teams

Braden Shewmake (1st Team) - 0.343 BA, 10 Hr, 16 2B, 64 RBI, .948 OPS
Riley Mahan (2nd Team) - .341 BA, 14 HR, 22 2B, 56 RBI, 1.052 OPS

Cole Freeman - .329 BA, 1 HR, 11 2B, 31 RBIs, .842 OPS

I think they were correct in leaving Freeman off

Sorry guys. Y'all are exactly right about the starting pitchers. I walked in from working outside and made a quick post before thinking it through.

Paul has no choice but to start a second line pitcher. And the other teams have the same problem in these early games of the tournament.

But, but, but....he'd plays for LSU!

Mahan and Shewmake were better, not sure what else to say. Both hit over .340, had at least 10 home runs and slugged over .550.
