I like Mett but I lost count of how many times he overthrew an open receiver downfield this season. That's not the system or playcalling that's on him.

As predictable as Lou's pick for the NCG. Every time he went down field I would tell my wife here comes the overthrow

Risher hates Mett and has for a long time. I don't think he is objective ( but I do agree with him)

Did you not watch LSU play football in 2010? North Carolina? MSU? It was some of the worst quarterbacking I've ever seen at any level. It was like watching Corky from Life Goes On drive a car.

I never thought that a QB who had never started an SEC game could come in and do what the fans and media thought Mett should do this year, but I think his upside is exponentially better than JJ's. He just needs to realize that he can't hang onto the ball if the shite-for-brains blocking schemes from this year continue into next. Some of it's chemistry. Our receivers sucked during the first 2 months of the season, but they played well in November. I'm not going to consider the Chicken Bowl because I don't believe anybody on scholarship for LSU cared to be playing that night. I didn't care to be watching.

Alabama.

Does Mettenberger play on his heels all game? People make fun of the way Peyton Manning dances around on his toes, but it allows him to move around in the pocket. Mettenberger looks like he is glued to one spot. Maybe he should be given dance lessons?

And I have never seen a QB worse at throwing on the run. I can't count the number of times he would roll out and miss open receivers when he had time to stop get his feet set and throw the ball. I was absolutely stunned when he threw a near perfect pass on a roll out in the Chik-fil-A Bowl, but then he reverted to form on second down in LSU's last possession and overthrew a wide open receiver.

The only difference is TB has a body that can run. With our OL decimated with injuries it makes Mett look worse than he is.

Mett can be effective ONLY if not pressure at all. If I am coaching defense against him I am man-to-man, pressuring him all day. LSU will fold like a napkin. 8 in the box, control the run game, pressure the QB, too easy.

It's the system each play in and stupid play calling

All you dumb asses that keep calling out the play calling clearly don't understand football.
If the players execute and beat their opp , in their one on one situation, a fb dive can go for a 45 yard TD.
It's common knowledge that ANY PLAY CAN BE SUCCESSFUL if the players execute. Even an option with a slow qb.
In college football, it's not about having tons of creative plays. IT'S ABOUT EXECUTING THE PLAYS YOU RUN.

You people that hate JJ owe the kid an apology. Without his mobility LSU would have lost more games.

Miles is the reason for our consistent offensive woes but we insist of picking on these quarterbacks. If you had to stand in that always collapsing pocket your throws might be crappy too.

Murray and Bray aren't a threat to run either, but they were the best passers in the SEC this year. McCarron isn't a threat to run, but Alabama moved the ball just fine.

Are you serious with this shite? Bray is the only one out of that bunch who wasn't a threat to run(but could connect on his deep ball very well). And you are looking at "run threat" and labeling it "dual threat". These guys can move around the pocket and run for first downs when everything is covered or at least not get hit every single time by a blitzing corner.

quote:

We don't NEED a quarterback that is a run threat, we just need one that doesn't stand stock still in the pocket and let the pass rush run him down. A little awareness regarding how to move in the pocket to make defenders miss or get hung up on linemen is really all that's necessary. Mett just showed absolutely no ability to do that this year.

Mett didn't show it in his high school tape either. The guy is unbalanced, with big clumsy plodder feet and the awareness of a one eye'd fish. He needs a shite ton of practice and it seems everybody that we have at QB is a project.

The Alabama game. He was awesome IMO vs our toughest opponent.
Maybe he won't but I think the turmoil among the OL this year plus the WR's dropping everything the first half of the season had a lot to do with his bad play.

Come on man, you have to be trolling.

Sure, it took half of the season for things to get clicking with Mett, but the back half of the season he became a solid starting QB.. except for deep throws downfield, it's mind boggling how inaccurate he is downfield. I thought that was his strength with his big arm, but damn.

Anyway, give me Mett over JJ any day.
