How that's all they have in Alabama and that, because of that, he wants to take the only thing they have and throw it back in their face.

I apologize. I posted on my phone, in my truck and had no link. You might have luck by going to the AFR vault on 104.5's website.

Honestly, gonna have to disagree with you, cold. I've spent copious amounts of time in AL. I've got family from there.
In general the people are conservative and blue-collar. And as far as entertainment, sports, really anything that is worthy of national mention... All they have is college football. And, as we all know, they are fanatical and (in my personal experience) arrogant and classless.
All that said, it's the day before the biggest game of the season. There was probably a bit of hyperbole involved.

All that is fine and dandy, it's just too bad TBob didn't play his LSU career or 1/9 with as much passion.

I find it simplistic and ignorant to paint any group of people with one broad brush as he has.

I am not sure a football pep talk s the best place to find reason and moderation.

This doesn't really describe the Alabama I know. My experience is that blue collar people from one state tend to find the blue collar people from the other states, and the wealthier people are drawn to the wealthier people of the other states. Granted, people love their football there, and it's a huge part of the culture, but the relationships between football, its presence, and the culture or classes of the state are a bit more complex. It's like saying people from New Orleans only eat Cajun and Creole food.
I might also add that after New Orleans was eliminated from the playoffs last year, I heard Hebert on the radio discussing who the Saints fans should root for. His reasoning was that the Saints were a blue collar team with blue collar fans, so teams like the Bears were the team Saints fans should root for because they are blue collar too.
I hear things like that and think people are idiotic. But I guess, to each his own. It's incredibly stupid hearing someone who centers his life around football and embracing his blue class roots is making value and class judgments about other people and their interests.

Here is the entire speech. If this doesn't get you fired up nothing will:
"Bama sucks. LSU is great. Get out there and beat the diatoms."
Where's that wall... aagggghggghghhhh!

Make no mistake, I am not condoning the blanket statement by any means. I'm just pointing out that what he was saying wasn't wrong, as far as mainstream entertainment is concerned.
Also, pointing out that the majority of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama share cultural similarities to make his point any less valid is as logically unsound as the blanket statement he is using.
And again, consider the source it was a "ra ra" speech during Bama hate week. You're looking in the wrong place if you're expecting to find culturally accurate or profound statements. And it is coming from a guy called "T-Bob"
