If he wanted to show he was considerate and respectful he would have offered up front to help with anything the tailgate would need him to bring. Most people myself included would probably tell him don't worry about it but it is more polite than basically saying "I'm active military who wants me at their tailgate."

wow, straight from the military playbook to get free stuff
no doubt you would have found a tailgate had you just said that you and your wife will be coming from a long way away and are looking to hang out somewhere. instead you did the typical military douche thing by making it clear that you are active military right before you ask for something. then you demanded respect once someone questioned you. like others have said, get over yourself. I frown upon anyone who uses their military service to get free stuff, unless a business advertises military discounts, tax breaks, etc.

Good point but obviously and online rant is not a typical social situation. I would never introduce myself as an active duty airman. I'm proud of my service to our country but I;m not arrogant
