In the second half, Miami had the ball six times and had six straight three and outs. Their total offense in the second half was--true story--THREE yards. From the end of the first quarter until the middle of the fourth quarter, LSU scored on eight straight drives, 4 TDs and 4 FGs.

I saw my favorite LSU fan sign of all time at that game. It was something like this:

2. To celebrate, smoke Cubans.

Bain is the only one without a helmet. Prolly the reason he was knocked out.

This has made me look back at second half adjustments in our bowl games under Les. Remarkable.

You've heard the complete domination of Miami in my prior posts. Check out these second halves:

Sugar Bowl v. Notre Dame:

In the first half, Notre Dame went for 240 yards and two scores. In the second half, Notre Dame had 50 yards of total offense and every drive but two went three and out. The other two drives went 4 and out and a pick on the first play. Needless to say, they didn't score at all. The LSU offense went for 318 yards in the second half and 20 points.

Title Game v. Ohio State:

OSU went for almost 220 yards in the first half, but was held to only 134 in the second half. They scored two TDs in the second half, but one was off of an 11-yard drive as a result of an interception and the second TD was a throwaway TD at the end of the game when LSU was playing prevent with a 21-point lead.

2008 Chick-Fil-A Bowl v. Ga Tech:

Georgia Tech actually gained more yardage in the second half than in the first in this one, but they were down 35-0 at halftime, so they were desperately trying to get something going the entire half. They wound up going scoreless, giving up the ball twice on downs and once on a fumble. No adjustments necessary here. And remember, this was our "worst" team in the Miles era.

2009 Capital One Bowl v. Penn State:

This was in the mosh pit in Orlando, and we held them to a few less yards in the second half, but more importantly, we outscored them 14-6, and almost came through with the victory in horrific conditions down there.

2010 Cotton Bowl v. Texas A&M:

Their offense had a lot of success in the first half, gaining over 250 yards, but in the second half, we held them to 124 yards and one score. Meanwhile, we dominated the time of possession in the second half, holding the ball over 19 minutes to just over 10 minutes for Texas A&M.

This is one of my all time favorite games in LSU history. If you sat in the rain in 1988 to watch miami destroy us, you know what I mean. This rematch and payback was a long time coming. That loss sent LSU into the 5 year tailspin until Dinardo could stabilize the ship. I'm glad we sent miami reeling for the last 6 years and counting.

Look at the guy just to the left of Bain's shoulder. If ever there was an "Oh $hit" look that's it!

That backup is months away from cashing in big.
