Was in the 7th or 8th grade when Pete and the team toured the state and our junior high team went to see them do an exhibition at the Rapides Parish Coliseum .... and Joe Dean was there and did a talk. I was a huge Pistol fan and remember the picture that was posted in the "Town Talk" sports section showing the shot that broke the record. Pic was taken when Pete had released the shot and ball was a couple feet from his hands. One of the greatest of all time, shame he had personal demons to fight but thankful he worked it out later.

I was a freshman at LSU in the summer of 66. We played lots of pickup games in the old Gym Armory. One day, the BB team started coming in the afternoons and everybody had to clear the courts. We saw a young thin guy warming up like we never saw anyone before. We got to watch the young Pete before anyone had any idea of who he was. I got to watch all his home games until Jan 70 when I went into the Air Force, so I missed his record scoring game.

LOL at that on court interview.

“Pete, what was the shot that did it?”

“That last shot. It went through, didn’t it?”

Reporters were idiots back then too.

Reporter: "Pete, what shot did it?"
Pete: "That last shot did it.

Reporter: "What kind of shot was it?"
Pete: "Jump shot"

I was there, had to stand in line outside the Parker Coliseum for three hours.

It would be nice if LSU did something to commemorate the 50 year anniversary of the record at the game tomorrow.

Doing so.
It just so happens that Pete broke the record against Ole Miss.

I was fortunate enough to be there when it happened with my dad. I was all of 11 years old and we lived in BR at the time.
