There is a legit chance of a 5-way tie atop the west...
All at 10-2...

If LSU miraculously wins out, Ole Miss drops 1 more...
Bama and Ole Miss drop State...
Bama beats Auburn...

How does LSU get in?

4 way tie between Bama, ole miss, state, and LSU, LSU goes to Atlanta. Not sure what happens if auburn gets thrown in.

I think LSU would fare better in a 4 way tie if the 5 way tie scenario happens and Auburn also loses at UGA.

We'd need to win out, which means we'd beat Bama, giving us the tie breaker. AU would have to lose twice more and OM would have to lose once. Oh, and State would have to lose 3 games. It's possible, but very unlikely.

Why would State have to lose 3?

if they lose 2,likely to Bama and Ole Miss who LSU would have beaten both if they win out.

That's a common misconception. They only have to lose three if LSU and State were the only teams in contention.

Remember how Texas beat Oklahoma but Oklahoma won the tie-breaker in 2008? If there weren't a third team involved, Oklahoma would have needed a better record than Texas to prevail. But they beat them because it was a three-way tiebreaker.

Yeah, the 4-way tie with LSU, Miss St, Alabama and Ole Miss gives us the tie-breaker.

We'd be 2-1 vs the other champs, as would Ole Miss. Alabama and Miss St get eliminated by being 1-2.

Then, you get head-to-head between LSU and Ole Miss, which we take.

If Auburn is in a 5 way mix at 6-2, they go on account of playing/beating UGA and SC (it falls down to the tiebreaker involving records of East Divison opponents). I think that's locked up, unless somehow Fla and Kentucky run out strong and UGA collapses.

It makes it less likely for LSU to prevail since it hurts LSU's record against the tied teams (first tiebreaker). Also, if they lose to Georgia, they can win the second tiebreaker for being the only team that's 5-1 against the SEC West.

That's the seventh tie-breaker. They likely wouldn't have to go that far down the list.

Edit: I just realized it's impossible for a 5-way tiebreaker if Auburn loses to Georgia. Even if they win the rest of their games, that would give either LSU or Alabama 3 losses.

Auburn would probably win a four-way tie if they lose to Georgia and no one else though.

They'd have the head to head on us.

I think we would be better off if Auburn lost to Georgia as well. That would drop them out of the picture completely, and then I believe we would win the tie breaker.

I'm not very worried about this right now. If LSU can defeat Bama in two weeks, all these scenarios will be clearer. If LSU finishes 10-2 with this team in this division, I believe it will be Miles best coaching year with ease.

No. We need Auburn out of the tie. They have to lose two more games, and Ole Miss realistically needs NOT to be one of them. We win a 4-way tie among LSU, MSU, Bama and Ole Miss. That's what we have to hope for.

We need the following:

LSU win out
Alabama lose to LSU but win out otherwise
Ole Miss lose to Auburn but win out otherwise
MSU lose to Alabama and Ole Miss
Auburn lose to Alabama and either Georgia or Texas A&M

Unlikely that all of that happens, but no single element is all that far-fetched. It's the combination of all of them that makes it unlikely.

Head to head only matters if you're comparing two teams head to head.

It is possible that we could get to the last tiebreaker with Auburn and at least one other team. As mentioned, Auburn seems to have the best SEC East opponents, but there are enough games left where that can change.

Georgia and South Carolina have 5 conference losses between them right now, and Florida and Kentucky have 6. Georgia and South Carolina would have to have more.

Only if they also lost a third game.

I think in that situation since there are so many "team 1 beat team 2 but team 2 lost to team 3 who team 1 beat" situations here wouldn't it go to the highest ranked team?

With multiple teams tied who've all beaten the others and all have the same division record, doesn't it go to some strength # of the cross division opponents in the SEC?

LSU: UF, UK
UA: UF, UT
MSU: UK, Vandy
OM: Vandu, UT
AU: UGA, USC

Auburn has the best opponent record with UGA in the mix. UA would likely be next I think because Florida will likely finish higher then UK due to h2h.

BCS rule got replaced by best SEC East opponents combined record - which seems kinda b.s. to me. Just replace BCS with AP.
