Bama in the last series of the regular season including a 28-2 loss.

'97 was during the height of Seinfeld's popularity.

We were roundly kicking Alabama's arse at Rosenblatt, and some innovative Tiger fan produced a sign that said, "28-2...YADA, YADA, YADA."

Blair Barbie would have been like the twins and Adams in today's game. He wasn't all that for damn sure.

he had one of the best at bats you'll see at any level in the Championship game, can't remember if we were losing or if the score was tied but our bats had gone cold, Barbier comes up , determined to get something going, keeps intentionally fouling off pitches to make the pitcher throw him what he was looking for, he gets his pitch, jacks it out, and we never looked back

2000 CWS championship against Stanford he gave a 8th or 9th inning motivational speech to the team on the dugout steps then promptly walked up and knocked one out of the park.

That is what a true leader does.

Witten = PIMP forever in my book for that bomb and some grade-A punting. He is an often overlooked two-sport guy.

I heard Skip say once when they were playing in Starkville, he had Witten in lf. He said the bulldog fans were giving it to him pretty good...finally someone hollared "hey, Witten, your ears are so big you can hear sign language!"

Skip said that was one of the best insults he ever heard.

In 1998, USC had to beat us twice to get to the NCG against Arizona State, and they did.

yep, cold front came through and our bats that hit 8 homeruns the first game and 6 the second went ice cold. kiss of death was walking through the omaha mall prior to the first USC game and seeing three peat t-shirts for sale.

Unfortunately, Seth Etherton, a longtime mlb pitcher, had our number.

To be fair though, that Alabama team was fabulous. Remember, they finished with the second most HR's in NCAA history.

They were like the thoroughbred Sham who ran the second fastest Ky. Derby in history. Unfortunately for him he was racing against Secretariat that day.

Alabama losing Vaz was similar to us losing Rudy in '81.

I remember catching midweek games on pizza deliveries around LSU and squinting to see the little scoreboard as I drove down Nicholson because Hawthorne was talking about the flowers he was growing at home instead of giving the score.

Jeezus I was an LSU Sr 20 yrs ago. Old.

Dude, I gotta give credit where it's due...when Skip told that story, I was super impressed with the insult.

What made it pretty funny is that Bertman has some big jug lopes himself, so I bet he was glad it was Witten and not him.

My granddad used to ump sec ball and he had tons of Skip stories and insults.
He told me he heard Skip tell someone they were so fat they jerked off to cook books. Or something like that.

That's got-damned awesomely savage, and exactly what I love about Bertman.

Can't help but love someone that can kick arse and talk the appropriate content of shite while doing so.

he was chewing the arse out of a friend of mine that had just thrown a hr pitch, giving him shite up and down, "why the frick would you ever throw that pitch?" catcher pipes in, "you called that pitch Skip"

told the same guy as he was going out to yank him "Goddammit ********! I'm trying to get to Omaga and you sure as frick aren't helping!"

different pitcher gave up a bomb and Skip goes to get him, guys says "sorry Skip" Bertman says "it's not your fault kid, I'm the one that recruited you"

And people think CPM is rough on the kids...

I pulled up next to Skip at a red light by Tiger Stadium once...ole boy was smoking a cigar about a foot long, just as easy breezy as could be. The man was just a flat out winner and got the most out of his teams, probably because of the natural confidence he displayed. We are lucky to have had him.

That 97 team was the most awesome college baseball team ever. After losing a game 28-2 to Bama the last week of the regular season, the Tigers forged through the NCAA regions and the World Series like an unstoppable bashi bazouk--it was amazing!

They did something the football team could envy--went out and swept the CWS, wearing nothing but purple jerseys.
