Who: LSU Tigers (2-0) vs South Alabama Jaguars (1-1)
What: Legends Classic Game 2
When: Thursday, November 19th - 8:00pm
Where: PMAC (13,215, 45th largest in D-I)
How:
***TV: SEC Network
***Radio: 98.1FM
***Stream: SECN+ via ESPN3.com

LSU enters their second game of the Legends Classic against the Jaguars of Southern Alabama after coasting to wins in the Tiger's first two games. This time, LSU will see much more size than they did in either of their first two games.

Projected Starting Lineups:

After being a very front court oriented team last season with two of the top three rebounders in the SEC, the Tigers have moved to a back court, perimeter oriented style of play. While it has been exciting and beneficial offensively, it has left a major question mark in the rebounding department.

In comes South Alabama who will start easily the tallest lineup LSU has seen this year. The Jaguars pulled down 18 offensive rebounds against NC State and 19 against Auburn Montgomery in their first two contest. It will be vital to LSU's defensive effort to try and reduce S Alabama's ability to get to the offensive glass.

LSU has used a center by committee of Elbert Robinson, Aaron Epps, Brian Bridgewater, and Darcy Malone. However, the Tigers have also tried rebounding with guards and point-forward Ben Simmons. However, LSU was outrebounded by 3 against a smaller Kennesaw St in their first Legends game.

Offensively, the Tigers have done well for themselves hitting over 40% of their three pointers and having an unbelievably efficient 38:18 assist to turnover ratio. They have had only 2% of their shots blocked this season (17th NCAA) and have run at a pace that is 34th fastest in the country.

While Blakeney leads the Tigers in scoring, Ben Simmons has been the cog that keeps this offensive machine running. His 5.5 assists per game leads the Tigers and was one rebound shy of his second straight double double in an impressive performance versus the Owls (22 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks, and 0 turnovers).

This is the final tuneup for the Tigers before heading to New York next week to take on Marquette and the winner/loser of NC State/Arizona State. LSU is the only team of the four that are still unscathed. Marquette (Belmont), Arizona St (Sacramento St), NC State (William & Mary) each fell victim to underdogs already this season.

Prediction:

LSU 1.12PPP
SAlabama 0.91PPP
Possessions 77

LSU 86, S Alabama 70

I've recorded the first two and rewatched. I'm missing the game Thursday for my best friends wedding in Houston but hopefully that will be my only miss of the season. I'll watch on TV and record to rewatch just in case something happens.

SOS, did you do a season win/loss projection with each games percentages like you normally do? If so I missed it.

Thanks for the write up and the canned food tip - didn't know that was going on before now. Question - now that LSU seems to be a more popular choice for tv with Simmons, do you see these 8pm tip off times as the new norm? I'd love to bring my niece to a few games against the smaller schools just for the experience, but 8pm is pushing it, especially on a school night.

Simmons is unreal. I knew he was good but after watching him he's even better than I thought. At the end of the day I think he will be POY and #1 overall draft pick if he stays healthy.

I've been really busy with work and wasn't able to do much pre-season stuff. I'm feeling pretty confident that we could enter SEC play undefeated. We will be favored in every game till then.

I'll probably try and do something like that for SEC play though. I can be more accurate with the important games that way.

The game at Charleston isn't listed as having any coverage for it. Hopefully there's some type of stream for it. But I love the SEC Network and having access to watch so many games. Wasn't that long ago that the only way to keep up with some of the games was on the radio.

Since SECN, basically all SEC basketball games are at either 6pm or 8pm during the week. The entire basketball TV scene goes on those times allowing two games during weekday prime time.

There are a good amount of 6 and even some 7 oclock games moving forward. December has no 8pm games. During SEC play, there are a lot of 8pm games though.

I remember stuffing 10 people into my dorm room to listen to games in college. Guess that was 8/9 years ago now, but still crazy to think of now.

I never had a problem with SECN+ basketball quality. It is horrible on baseball, but I had to watch a good amount of games on espn3 last year and thought it was good.

Maybe it was this 3rd world island's internet then, but basketball was tough to watch and baseball was impossible last year.

Though not great, S. Alabama will easily be the best team LSU has played thus far

- I suspect Simmons won't be able to get to the rim as easily as he has over the first few games, so I think we'll get to see if he can hit some jumpers. If he can, then he is as close to unstoppable on offense as there is in college basketball.

- Which FT shooting team shows up? The one who shot 50% or the one who shot 82%. There were too many games last season where LSU was inconsistent at the stripe. Can't blame the big guy (Robinson) for lowering the %. He's got a nice touch from the line. For as much as he will shoot, Blakeney has got to step it up in the FT department.

- LSU has done a good job thus far, but can they continue to make it difficult for teams to score inside? This team is capable of going on a big run at any time. They can maximize those runs by keeping the opponents from getting easy baskets and second chances at the rim.
