Because Louisiana doesn't have kids growing up as QB prospects like Texas. We usually just put the best athlete there and go.

And the answer is...the DNA make-up in La. is different than it was back when the likes of Bradshaw, Hebert,Jones were being bred...the population has changed dramatically...sorry if the truth hurts...

most of our schools are smaller so that can still win...

in Texas with 3,000 kid schools, defense will have enough speed to stretch out a spread option if you can't attack vertically. you're also more likely to have a kid who's flung it around with dear old dad. the coaches have more knowledge of actual offense and aren't dependent on athletic talent

There was a time when North Louisiana had the most big time QBs per capita in the world...fact!

This isn't true. LSU for whatever reason refuses to recruit and or offer them.

This is a big part of it. For anyone on this board that played HS football in Louisiana, think about your HS coach and if that guy could rub two brain cells together long enough to put together an offense that would produce a QB good enough to play in college. And then remember that that guy was probably a good representative of the level of coaching around the state.

One big reason the same schools go deep in the playoffs every year is because those schools aren't coached by the normal rock eating mouth breathers that typically populate a high school football staff in Louisiana.

ETA: It's also why Louisiana produces way fewer LBs than it should.

I've always wondered about this. So you think it's bad HS coaching that leads to few LB recruits in La? That surprises me. Do you think guys who should be stud LBs are instead put at DE?

IIRC, Brock Berln, Peyton Manning, Josh Booty, and Ryan Perilloux were all the #1 QB's in the country coming out of HS

QB is the hardest position to play and most who are solid at that position have played the position their entire life. The elite QBs usually don't just start playing that position the first time in HS. Evangel has groom all their QBs from an early age and they lined up in shoot gun just about every play.

WTF kind of answer is this? Obviously everyone understands what you're trying to imply, but your premise is false. According to the US Census, the percentage of blacks in Louisiana has actually gone down since 1950.

Maybe the question should be why can't we keep La. QB's when good ones come along , ala Patterson. Do you think he wants to come to Baton Rouge to hand off 70% of the time, or go where he will get to show off his potential to NFL scouts ? These kids see the coaching moves and play calling and unless they bleed purple and gold it will never allow us to sign a top 5 QB. And if we should by hook or crook ever get one, I think they would digress under our coaching staff. Blame that damned ESPN for exposing our coaching philosophies.

Another reason is it seems some of them choose baseball (Zach Lee, Josh Booty, etc.)

The last really great highly touted 5 star Louisiana QB turned into a selfish egotistical head case and ruined his career before it even started.
