Yes there is. It is simple math. The more top ranked talent you recruit; the higher your odds are that some will pan out.
There is a reason we have more star players then Tulane eventhough apparently 'rankings are irrelevant' when they hit the field. Because they are not irrelevant as a probability metric to future performance. Sure thing? Hell no. Nothing in probability tends to be. But I would rather have the big guns then not.
And the formula for LA is simple. Build the wall and cherry pick a few outside. That will keep up competitive at the top level. And given the evil empire to the east is simply drawing in stunning recruiting classes year after year as they cherry pick the southeast... any slip up is very very concerning. We play those guys every year (and yes I know we have done well against them H2H)

Nobody really knows how these players will pan out
we all get worked up over other teams being ranked higher than us...that's the issue here

To answer the OP, fans are butthurt from 1/9/12 and looking for something to bitch about.
Bad recruiting years happen, especially when a couple bad breaks go your way ( Collins and Gunner) and u have a young talented team like LSU does.

I just do not understand how people are so vested in what an 18yo kids decides that it physically upsets them. Up to this point his biggest decision in life was PS3 or Xbox.

I understand that people would love to have a team full of 5 stars , but that is just not reality.
We have recruited well at LSU, every year all I hear is how much talent we have. We are the most talented team in the country yada yada yada.
But we only have 1 top 5 class in the last 5 years.....how is this possible?
