I think LSU has changed as well. Miles isn't nearly as stubborn as Mack has been on the recruiting front but even Mack is understanding that he has to make some changes if he doesn't want another terrible year. Still can't quite understand how they're ranked 15 in the preseason poll but it's a preseason poll so who really cares.

I do believe that LSU has an opportunity to cherry pick some top tier guys from TX next year and really make some strong inroads for the first time in years.

The day Brown leaves is the day I actually start worrying about UT denting our recruiting. Because if anybody comes in with national recruiting visions, UT has the potential to be an easy national powerhouse recruiter. Especially with their resources and campus...

There is no reason for LSU to worry about Texas in Louisiana IMO because for Texas to try to turn into aTm and invest substantial time and efforts in Louisiana just doesn't make sense. Like LSU, the bulk of our two schools success is predicated upon instate success. Mack has recruited very well and effectively there. Maybe a different approach but their success will always and should always be based on keeping their best instate. Just like LSU.

As long as Mack Brown et al is in Austin, we have nothing to worry about.

UT has always under Brown pushed hard for very early commitments. Nothing new here at all and he has always been after the top players in the surrounding states, so that is not new also.

There's always a mass exodus with over 300+ FBS recruits signing LOI's every year...it's just that most of the best decide to stay home to play for Texas.

Not trying to be an arse or anything, but how do you reconcile your statement about recruits with the on-field product out of Austin the last couple of years?

It had mostly to do with the staff members that are no longer at Texas.

The reason this matters is bc AM left to be in SEC and now that 12 people have the UT network in their homes and AM has the SEC network and LSU, Bama, Florida and Arkansas do as well. If they do not WIN soon! Many of the top tier talent they were use to getting will be gone to play in the SEC! But, I agree this thread belongs on SECrant if anything on this board!

Fair question. The quick answer is the wheels literally fell off once Colt left Austin and we have yet to find a decent replacement. Garrett Gilbert was the 5* stud to follow in his footsteps but he could never put it together. Ash started last year as 4th string, never got any reps then was thrown on the field as a true Frosh.

To the above, add in some misses/lazy recruiting evaluations esp. on the O-line, lazy S&C practices, and a few other issues of complacency and you have a recipe for 2010. 2011 truly began the restart and finishing 8-5 was an improvement with a brighter future if we can get solid QB play.

UT is going to have a really good defense. If they can somehow find a QB worth a shite, they are going to be in the title hunt (probably not this year, but they are definitely trending in the right direction).

UT failed miserably in transitioning from the zone / read Greg Davis offense to a physical run down your throat SEC offense. With GD gone and their new OC Harsin in place, they really are an above average QB away from being back in the National title hunt.

Yes. I'm really pulling for Ash to be that guy as he is a good, tough kid that has put in a ton of work to improve.

We're about to find out just how much he's improved as fall camp starts this Sunday. Real football is back!!

I wish someone would compare the recruiting classes to the yearly NFL draft and the bowl or ranking EOY. Maybe like the last 10 years. BAMA TEXAS LSU AND USC would be a great comparison.

It seems Texas gets a lot of 4 and 5 stars that don't amount to squat.

you'd be surprised.

Last couple of years not so much, but they have their fair share of NFL players.

people tend to focus on UT's issues at QB in the last two years (with good reason), but the biggest issue is with the OL and those problems started many years ago, really in 2006. The last UT Olineman that was actually drafted in the first few rounds was 2006 I believe (Justin Blalock with the Falcons). That's inexcusable (combination of lazy recruiting and poor coaching/philosophy).

If your OL sucks (which ours has for last couple years), all the skill talent in the world isn't worth crap.

And I agree, this seems like a MSB topic.

I really don't see any of the big time LA kids going to Texas, JMO. Bama sure but not texas. Noil will be a tiger and LF should be ours if he's smart just by looking at the numbers of 2013 signees at Bama and Bo in play for 14'.

I just hope we get Paris and Brown out of Texas! :beatdeadhorse:

Hootie and Bama scare me. He is absolutely the best DB to come out of LA in a couple years and could be for a couple years to come. We have to put in extra work and lock him down.

Kain, Cam, Tony, Ed, Hootie, and LF would be major cornerstones for us and keep us dominant until 2018!
