It's looking like it, but he likes to frick with people so we'll see. I'm just glad we got on him so Bama didn't scoop him up.

Now to work on the Nicks and Tony Brown. We'll probably get a commitment from Jamal Adams in the near future, as well as Jerrod Heard.

I know we've had a couple of bad seasons, but in the two seasons before that, we went 25-2, with 2 BCS bowl appearances

This. It's not like Texas is some .500 team every year.

we have gotten an influx of Longhorn-tards in the past, but Jlock and ATXHorn are two that don't get into a pissing contest and generally have a knowledgeable outlook of their team

Given the success LSU has had in Texas and the # of Texas guys LSU is after for 2014, UT turning up the heat is relevant to LSU recruiting.

If you aren't interested, don't read the thread

If you look at my post above yours, I think he is referring to that more than relevance. Usually, threads about Texas on here turn into a pissing contest and tend to travel far away from the original topic

Exactly. This is a measure being taken to keep the top talent in-state, with LSU and Bama threatening for some of the top guys in the 2014 cycle. We just couldn't wait any longer, IMO. I think we'll get one of Harvey and Brown, but I'm not so sure that Watkins doesn't end up at Bama.

This thread is going to go on forever.

These guys, who were at Brown's press conference, took it that way also. BurntOrageNation.com

quote:

Where the decision to change tactics matters the most is with those prospects still out there, the kids like Lancaster safety Nick Harvey, who already have a sense of their top schools, but can't include Texas because of the lack of an offer.

It needs to be said again -- Texas was falling behind. In some cases, irreparably behind. Alief Taylor cornerback Chris Hardeman already committed to LSU, even though he was given the "wink-wink" offer by the Longhorns. Had named a leader during the spring evaluation period, when offers were rolling in basically daily for him. This is the definition of falling behind. Sure, Hardeman wasn't a huge loss, but that's only because there are six or seven guys as talented as he is. In other classes, that won't be the case. Isn't the case in the 2013 class.

The following is the kind of stuff that makes Mack great for Texas. It's also why fans of other schools think he is a sanctimonious SOB.
quote:

Texas isn't going to unceremoniously dump any commitments SEC style while Brown is in charge, but what about when there are legitimate reasons?

The Longhorn head man indicated that there is a plan in place to protect the program from such instances:

There are still requirements that have to be in place for young guys like that going into their junior year. If their academics drastically change to a negative, you wouldn't take them. If they got in trouble, you wouldn't take them. And obviously if they are not competing for their [high school] if they call and say the guy is not trying anymore and you shouldn't take him, and we have a right and we have explained that to the young men that we have offered at that time.

If a kid is a good enough athlete, an SEC coach wouldn't give a shite what his high school coach thought. They'd also know "processing" is an available option if they can't make the kid "come to God".

When it comes to naivety, the Texas writers are the real problem.
quote:

It's not the Nick Saban trapdoor, it's an honorable trapdoor that won't be used without clear and overwhelming evidence of it's necessity. Mack Brown won't change in that regard.

Why can't everyone just accept and admit that their school had to make these changes to stay competitive. I've been trying to explain situations like Elliot Porter, Patrick Miller and offering 8th graders as ones LSU had to make to be the best in the SEC West. Once your competition starts bringing guns, you don't bring a knife to a fight.

For programs that want to be BCS Championship level, there is too much money at stake to not go over to the dark side. The same people that were willing to jump ship on their conference traditions are making these decisions, not the coaches.

BON might not have in this article but a lot of Texas sites have and have been saying this for at least a year. We all knew it had to happen.
