After watching the film today, TW pretty much could do what he wanted
Thanks for coming back. After every UHS game, I watch the film and realize he NEVER gets blocked. Another thing about him, and your son would probably agree, he doesn't look big from a distance, but when you stand next to him you realize just how big he is, and can be.

I am watching U-High (vs EA) and U-High looks great. I heard nothing from them for many years and now studs all over the field the last couple of years. They look bigger than EA to me. I saw U-High's middle school team 4 years ago vs. a local middle school and there was nothing to indicate they would be any good at all. Obviously they might have added some kids (Kragthorpe, etc). It wasn't like watching Barbe's players (Quinn, Fontenot, Jordan, etc) at middle school age knowing if they stayed together they would have a good baseball/football team. Anyway hope to see them play JT Curtis because JT is saying this is the best team he has ever had. Would be a great game.

I'm a former Cub, and as much as I love U-High, as good as this team is, will not likely be able to beat John Curtis. The reason that JT Cutis has so many State Titles is because he has facilities and recruits players on a level that rival a Division II programs (or whatever they call them this week)
Two of my cousins were among those recruited by JT Curtis in middle school. And i really developed a dislike for JT as my cousins matriculated through his families school. The guy doesn't concern himself with trivial stuff like whether his players can read, he cherry pick the cream of New Orleans athletes each year, fields a team that usually dresses 85-90 players each game, and last but not least, the jerk absolutely hates LSU with a passion.
Thus, I would really love to see the Cubs beat the living daylights out of Curtis. But it''s a different level of competition. There enrollment is 2A, but the number & quality of their athletes is as good as most 4A & 5A schools. That's why they got kicked back down to 2A a few years back when they had been playing 4A Ball. The other 4A & 5A programs got the rules changed so that they didn't have to get whipped by Evangel & Curtis in the playoffs every year.

Actually, Curtis is a dump of a School. There are several reasons they're so good: They run the exact same Offense and Defenses starting in the 4th grade, so when they make it to Varsity, they don't make mental mistakes. They also, at the Parents request, (??) hold kids back so that they are at the optimum maturity level. They don't have to scour the Playgrounds anymore; parents seek them out. Lastly, they are extremely well coached.

It's amazing how this myth perpetuates.

Agree. JC doesn't hate LSU. His kids have as much access to LSU as any school in the state and his kids are really high on LSU. How many players has he sent to Bama since Saban has been there? We just got Dillon Gordon, could have Duke Riley if we wanted him and will very likely get Malachi Dupre next year along with any of the other kids from Curtis that we want in a likliehood. For a guy that is so strongly against LSU, he sure does allow his kids to visit LSU quite a bit. Haven't seen one kid from Curtis say anything bad about LSU nor even entertain going elsewhere if we want them since McKnight. I guess that's because the kids are doing their own thing and going against JC's wishes but yet other kids we don't land obviously listen to their Bama homer coaches. Can't have it both ways.

quote:I have never understood parents thinking behind this, but I know it to be true, not just at Curtis. When I first started taking my son to camps a couple of years ago, he had to go up against many 16 year old 9th graders! He was 13 and actual in his correct grade. Of course at that stage he was no match for them. 3 years in age make a hell of a difference. It use to piss me off, and still does, how people say, "He's only a freshman!" Some kids classification in school these days is not an indication of his actual age! I know several kids who are a grade or two behind in school. I've always heard that Curtis was notorious for this.

It's not that tough a ticket but don't get there at 6:50 either.

You won't have any trouble. 2A games in South LA are never packed.

If they are trying to sit on the U-High side, they might have trouble. Some of our players travel with a lot of family, and the stands were jammed for a rescheduled Sunday afternoon game on a holiday weekend.

Funny thing, one of the Curtis Asst Coaches is an LSU Grad who is ALL Bama. I played with his Dad and two Uncles in HS. One of his uncles is a Bama legend and was a Bear Bryant pallbearer, so I guess that's why he loves em.
I was around Curtis when Moffitt came there from Tennessee Tech, where he played with a Curtis guy. JT gave him his start.
