Same reason they post initials for players or numbers for players. Perhaps the same reason they say "the league" or "next level" instead of saying NFL. "On an island" as opposed to man-to-man or a basketball player is "long" instead of tall. There's not much original thought among the masses. Easier to regurgitate and blame you for noticing their lack of originality.
