Frank should retire at LSU, but only when his son is old enough to take over.

The only way for Frank Wilson to position himself to one day be the HC at LSU, if that is his goal, is to move on somewhere else.

I disagree.

There are a lot of hot shot coordinators who are great football minds that dont turn out well as HC...hell one of them is on our staff.

IMO in order to be successful at a top prgram like LSU you should be a good, organized leader who can close on recruits and manage the details of a program.

All things Frank can do...if he gets dynamic Coords (and being the personable guy he is , he will get them) he will keep this program as a powerhouse.

Maybe no direct correlation other than him being LSU's recruiting coordinator and his connections in New Orleans?
I don't think you are understanding my question. what does the fact that your friends follow recruiting have anything to do with knowing about available OC positions that may be offered to Frank?

following recruiting has nothing to do with coaching searches that aren't even happening yet

Not unless someone throws a ton of money at him and LSU refused to up his position. LSU could change his title to Oc-in-waiting or something and up his pay.

But really, did anyone think he would stay here forever? His buddy over in Bama has been there as RB coach forever and he hasn't gone anywhere.

Juluke would be the guy to pursue if Frank leaves. I'd love to have him on the staff regardless of what Frank does, though

All I was attempting to do is get an idea from posters their take on the impact of losing or keeping FW. I didn't say I had rock solid sources saying the dude had offers. I lot of my friends who do follow recruiting say he's a hot name for an OC position. Whatever happens, I'm sure LSU will survive.

Freeze at Ole Piss offered him OC position as soon as he got there. Obviously Frank passed it up.

Only way I see him going to an OC position is if it's the right fit. I don't think he's going to take a small school OC job. It would need to be a big school like in the SEC.

He loves it here and LSU was always been his dream school to coach for. It would take a lot for someone to steal him here but I can see it happening soon, IMO. Frank is currently the third highest paid assistant behind Chavis/Cameron. He's getting paid a lot here. Close to 700k and LSU probably wouldn't have a problem raising it to keep him here.

I could see a program like Tulane offering him HC job before OC though if Curtis Johnson doesn't work out for them.

with 2014 shaping up to be an historical class, wouldn't it be best not to discuss it on the recruiting board?

I think Frank may actually have a better shot to actually be the AD than a head coach for a major team. He isn't doing anything revolutionary when it comes to X&Os. If he was to get the OC position somewhere, they would have to pay him 750k or more.

Is anyone going to offer that to someone with no play calling experience? You can get an elite OC with years of experience for that price. Now I suppose someone like Freeze or Malzahn can offer that, but being a figurehead OC isn't going to help him get a head coaching job, either.

Additonally, the colossal failures of Locksley and Porter as head coaches will impact his outlook in my opinion,

So, you think if he goes somewhere else he as effective (in recruiting) as being at LSU? No way; LSU is the best place for him.

I am not by any means down playing what value Frank has added to the program. But damn Guys we won two ships without him in the last 10 years. He makes us a better program but some are making it seem like we will be a 500 club if he leaves.

I personally think it's an extremely symbiotic relationships. Lsu needs him and he needs lsu. If he goes to Tulane he gets maybe 1/3 of those players and that still doesn't gaurantee the big fish.
Do you guys really think Brazil diarse Fourtnette and Willis all go to Tulane or la tech becuase of Frank Wilson.

Lsu is a brand has a massive appeal as well

No, I think people worry that if he had stayed at Ole Miss or Tennessee, he would have brought big players from New Orleans to those schools.

He definitely wouldn't be bringing those guys to Tulane. No one could.

I just think LSU has completely priced Wilson out of the position coach market for any other school. An SEC program would have to offer him an OC title and give him real OC money while giving him figurehead OC duties. I highly doubt anyone would do that.
