If Texas doesn't join the SEC until July 1st, there is no rule that would prevent him from transferring to an SEC school and being immediately eligible. He's in the same boat as the defensive tackle we're pursuing from TCU. They're both transferring from Big 12 schools.

If the NCAA can't restrict transfers, why would the SEC be able to?
Not subject to the same level of antitrust scrutiny.

Well, you're wrong because they saw the potential of this favoring OU/Texas and made sure they couldn't exploit it. They have to sit out even if they're not officially part of SEC yet. Texas would've exploited that given the opportunity.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of that.

The article has some strange language. The players from Texas and Oklahoma are "prohibited" from transferring to SEC schools, while SEC players are "disincentiveised" from transferring to Texas or Oklahoma. Very odd.

Why is this an ongoing discussion?

Dude can't transfer here unless he sits out a year. He didn't just bail on starting at Texas to come hang out for 12 months and get back to it in 2025.

Why is everyone confused on how this works?

I think the confusion lies in the fact that Texas is not yet a member of the SEC.

So now SEC players are "discouraged" from transferring to Texas or Oklahoma during this Spring portal period?

Unless there is a specific clause in the contract that specifically addresses this Spring portal (and it appears there isn't), any player challenging it would win.

I believe Texas and OU made a handshake agreement to follow the SEC rules for the spring window. That's the reporting anyway.

Certainly hope the Tigers have a shot at landing Brooks.
