Starting Texas CB and Former 5 Star Brooksto Hit Portal

As a sophomore in 2023, Terrance Brooks had a breakout year. He earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors after playing in 14 games and making 13 starts. Brooks recorded 20 tackles, six pass breakups and three interceptions last season. The three interceptions tied for the team lead.
This would be a huge pickup. Any chance we are in the running for him?

Does he have to sit out 1 yr if he comes to SEC? If not bring him in for a visit for sure.

Are we sure he would have to sit if he transferred to SEC right now? I know the SEC rule for spring in conference transfers states this, but technically Texas and OU aren't official members until sometime this summer.

Nah, this is an issue with Terry Joseph and his coaching style. Brooks is definitely talented, he didn't seem to take a step forward this year but the whole Texas secondary struggled. Definitely worth pursuing him if he's not asking for a ton of money.

The language covers that loophole. It's not, you can't transfer to an SEC school. It's you can't play SEC football the following season.

That doesn't mean the rule would withstand an anti-trust court challenge.
I'm not saying LSU, or the player SHOULD raise such challenge in this scenario. Just that given the prior rulings on such issues I think this rule would be struck down (if challenged)

know you never turn down talent but everything I’ve read about this kid screams another Denver Harris situation. I’d pass.

This isn't a money thing but ok. He and his dad don't think Terry Joseph is a doing a good job of developing players, and as a Texas fan, I agree with them.
