Scotlandville 2018 PG Javonte Smart was ranked by ESPN's basketball recruiting services as the #1 PG and #6 player overall in the nation in the class of 2018. Smart has been playing two grades up for the Elfrid Payton Elite 17u team in arguably the most talent filled summer circuit in the nation (Nike EYBL) and has been amongst the team leaders in points and assists. I definitely hope Johnny Jones starts early and pursues this kid hard.

Damn, and he's 6'4" already...I am sure JJ is on the case!

If Johnny isn't run out of town before then, I like our chances to keep him home. The basketball future is bright.

These next few years in Louisiana are going to be exciting to watch as far as basketball recruiting goes. I think it will be exciting in both good and bad ways. We're going to get some talented guys, but we're also going to miss on some guys we want.

Is this guy by any chance related to Marvelous Smart?

Hopefully with the talent JJ has coming in next year he can avoid be thrown out for a few more years.

this guy is already good but he's going to be great IMO

LSU was at several of his games last season. He is a relative of Keith Smart.

Run out of town by who exactly? The mouthbreathing rantards that don't even understand basketball well enough to know why they don't like Coach Jones? Pretty sure 99% of our fan base that doesn't sit on TD all day is happy with the fact that our teams have improved every year, finally made the tournament last year, and brought in a #1 recruiting class, all with basically 6 or 7 capable players

There's little chance of him being run out of town within the next 2 years. That said, if LSU is not significantly in the hunt for the SEC crown this year in a WIDE OPEN conference with probably their most talented team in several years and/or they fail to win at least one game in the NCAAT, then I don't think it's unreasonable to question whether or not Jones will ever be able to do anything of note at LSU.
He's vastly improved the recruiting. He's improved the program's competitiveness in the SEC. Now the pieces are there to make next year's team a national contender. "Next year" is here!

Yea I did a thread on him a few months ago. Thread Has some good articles about him.
Kid is a stud and the real deal. Plays like a veteran out there and was just a freshman
My cousin is a high school basketball coach in Baton Rouge and he told me about him when he was in 8th grade summer league ball. Said he could be the best player in the state as an 8th grader. He's big time.

Does anybody in the know have an idea as to how our chances are looking?

You gotta think we're in good shape... We were the first team to jump on him.
But it's still extremely early in his recruitment process so it's hard to tell.
