A long snapper and his punter/holder only need so much practice to get their thing down pat. Could have easily done that in less than a week in the fall/summer.
ummmmm...

The second our long snapper screws up and it's a game changing play, Thunderbird would be here bitching about les not recruiting such a "useless" position

They why ever accept his commitment. And you just don't tell an OL to greyshirt over a long snapper...come on. A long snapper.

i'm no genius, however, just about every time one of these situations occur, the coaching staff winds up looking good over time. (Dexter Pratt, Miller, Storm Johnson, e. porter, ect.)

we've had people on here making fun of the long snappers, punters, kickers, ect lsu signs. however, lsu has had the best specials teams in it's history under miles and we've won a lot of games because of them.

I am not questioning you, but how sure are you of this? I have a friend that went to AU and has some connections, that continues to tell me that this is just a rumor. I want to see the kid do well wherever he may be. I think he will be a very good one someday.

Agreed. This board blew up over the Brad Wing offer too.

Where did I say anything about it being a useless position? Overreact much?

I simply said it's dumb to chase off an OL commit when you have a long snapper (Who likely would have paid his own way for 1 semester) too. Long snapping is obviously a very important part of the game and you look stupid when that guy screws up, but my point is pretty simple - who needs to be here earlier at LSU training? An offensive lineman, you know, the guys who need strength and conditioning probably more than anyone on the team...or a long snapper who can literally come right in and do 1 thing the same way every time and doesn't NEED to get bigger/stronger/faster...just needs to get timing down right and comfortable with punter/holder. You tell me, what's more difficult, and before you try and tell me the intricacies of this and that with long snapping, I was a long snapper back in high school ball. It's not hard to get timing down at all, just takes a short time.

I read somewhere that coaches evaluate the time it takes the ball to get to the punter. At the various levels (high school, college, pro) that timing obviously has to get shorter. Ferguson's snap time was on a professional level while still in high school - at least that's what the scouting report said on him.

Not the case. He was chosen as the person to pay his own way because he could most afford it.

this is silly. He didn't have to pay his own way. he could have come in august with the rest. HE WANTED to come in the spring. He wasn't told he HAD to come in the spring. He was told, if you have to be here in the spring, then you have to pay your own way.

Thanks for your usual useless input

I'm guessing you also fall in the "coaches are never ever ever ever" wrong camp as well

I need you to outstretch your arm and open your hand, Mr. Professional Football Deep snapper, and just let it go. We know that you know everything because you have been telling us the last few pages.

Well , it looks like Pat is actually transferring after all. I think the ship has sailed though.

It has been debunked by a lot of "insiders", FWIW...

I've only seen one guy (just a normal, everyday type of poster with zero connections), on the Rivals board, claiming he's transferring. Everyone else says he's staying.

For crying out loud, the Auburn fan claiming he's transferring claimed that Pat Miller wanted out because he was too scared to play this early. That's a terrible reason to start with.

Not at all. You just demonstrate you don't know basic concepts in sports whether its football or baseball or other things.

It is nowhere close to dumb if you think there is risk in losing the one you ask to wait until fall (which we know was possible because of Miller) and you expect Reid to start (which you said yourself).

You have to go with the guy that you think you will need this coming year. If you don't and you lose him, then you have a real problem that can't be fixed and could cost you games.

Your logic seems backwards on this one.

I love this line of reasoning. Sure, let's just ask the kid's parents to cut a check for $10,000 that they didn't save or plan for. Never mind that as a non-scholarship player for that one semester he'll also have to pay for his own dorm, food, books, fees, etc. I'm sure everybody in Buford, GA is OT rich.
