I didn't say it was definite, but it is evidence of where we stand in comparison to Alabama. Again, it appears that Alabama invested little to no time in this kid and, despite that, he's willing to change his mind last second when they come calling.

Moss is making a good point, but you have to look at it from the other way around as well. if it were an LA kid, and he was looking around because LSU didn't offer and then as soon as he got the LSU offer he wanted he signed with LSU, you'd say he was just waiting on that offer and he jumped on it.

it's hard to make a judgement on the state of LSU's program just because a kid finally got an offer he was looking for.

Yep. An out of state recruit? There are a dozen or so criteria any kid may have in choosing a school. I would say "status of the program" isn't always going to be the most important one. Ely is a legit QB, the season hasn't even started yet and he is going to get more offers.

the bigger issue it raises is out of state recruiting strategy. we "ABANDONED' texas this year and the defensive coaches and gonzo are all basically on the east coast. we are fighting geography. to date, we don't have one rival 4* player from out of state (17 commits total). that's terrible compared to any other year. we need to refocus on texas and georgia. we won't be able to consistently beat all the sec schools for the top talent when geography is in their favor.the walsh kid is better than eli or rivers.
Texas should always be our no. 2 state.

Alabama just won the MNC. As far as I'm concerned they are above everyone right now.

Well, how often does this happen with prized recruits? I know this has occurred when a kid was borderline 3* and LSU offered late. But in those situations we weren't normally competing with other elite programs.

I guess my point is this. Three to five years ago, LSU was the program that could change a kid's mind last second because we were a better program than anything else being offered. If this is true with Ely(which it may not be), then I think it just signifies that we have fallen from the elite ranks a bit.

Ely wanted an offer from Flordia, Bama or Notre Dame...He got his offer (we will see) and he is gone...No big deal...There are articles which mentioned the schools he prefered...This has nothing to do with the status of our (LSU) program...The kid wanted to go to one of the three programs mentioned in the first sentence...

Relax Tigers, our recruiting class is awesome and will get even better when a few more commit...

where is this info that Bama spent little or no time on Ely. B/c they didn't offer till this week doesn't mean that.

If this uproar was over a big time Louisiana kid that got a last minute offer (and took it) to Bama, I'd be upset. This is a Florida kid that(might) go to Bama, after we just took a commitment from another QB earlier. I'm amazed at the uproar.

granted that bama just won the nc and that helps in recruiting but I don't know what eli sees in them as a QB to want the offer from them. they have no track record under saban of developing qb for pros or developing top quality receivers and they are not know as a passing team. I guess you just want to go where you want to go. ask m. davis or c. marish

Is there any link where you can hear Ely's commit live?

Alabama has only had two starting QBs under Saban, and John Parker Wilson is a back-up with the Falcons.

Alabama has several highly though of WRs on the roster, but again has not had a lot of turnover at the position. Still very young depth.

Alabama produced better numbers in the passing game in 2009, than LSU did.

Maybe a chance to play sooner at Bama. LSU has Z Lee if he stays and Rivers if he signs. Think Bama has only 2 scholly QBs after this year??

Bama a little closer to Tampa than LSU I think???

shite, who didn't??? Georgia Tech probably had more passing yards than we did running the triple option.
