WR Joshua Cobbs from Houston per Fong. I thought we have plenty of depth in that room. Hopefully we’re not losing any more guys in that room.

Wondering what caught their interest in this guy. Not overly productive at Houston or Wyoming

Maybe he's a solid blocker. WR that block won't jump off of the stats page, but we all know how valuable they are.

How many years does he have left? Could be a hint on a potential guy entering the portal.

Where are you seeing that? I've seen Nakos mention Sam Brown from Houston but not Cobbs.

I think it's more just a contingency plan that if someone leaves, you're not caught with your pants down or if guys from other positions leave and you have the extra numbers after solving your other roster issues, you're just strengthening your roster

Whichever Houston kid it is seems to be in the "best available" category. A bonus if space permits thing.

If this is indeed the case, I am extremely confused by their management of the WR room (and the roster generally). Entering this offseason, we had a pretty good idea that Lacy and Hilton would be solid starters. Prior to spring practice, we didn't necessarily know if they'd be true difference makers, but I don't think many would've argued with the notion that those 2 were more than adequate to fill 2 of the 3 starting WR spots.

I was fine with brining in another starter - especially CJ Daniels, who seemed/seems like he has star potential. But it never really made sense to me to bring in him AND zavion thomas. With both of them, you're now really starting to push other guys down the depth chart. There's gotta be an odd man out between Hilton/Daniels/Thomas, and presumably it's not the new additions. But even if you think that both of those new guys are better than hilton, it's pretty hard for me to buy that the worse of those two is SO much better as to justify using your resources in that fashion. And that's before even considering the group we've got waiting in the wings.

All that said, I can at least get on board - you figure lacy+hilton+one of daniels/thomas, and the other maybe sticks around another year. But it gets really tough now to bring in ANOTHER guy. By now you've seen Lacy and Hilton show out all spring. So you've got 2 guys you're excited about, 2 transfers who should both be solid at worst, PLUS a group of remaining guys with a lot of promising talent. Also you're talking about playing more 12 personnel and emphasizing the TE - so the third WR isn't even as important as it might typically be. But we STILL need another WR? That's the position we want to use our limited open scholarships on?

Idk, it just seems bizarre to me, unless they're fully expecting two of sampson/parker/anderson to enter the portal

This took me by surprise as well. Thought it was just DT’s and maybe a stud CB if they entered.

I viewed Thomas as an upgrade in the return game after swinging and missing with Aaron Anderson. Not so much as a guy who would unseat Hilton as a starter.

The only O position I thought they might add was RB. Very surprised at even the mention of a WR

Based on what? His production at Liberty?

As for the rest of the group, we’re going after WRs because despite the potential of our younger guys, we have hardly any actual game reps and all the practice isn’t the world doesn’t make up for in-game experience.

If we add 3 guys plus Lacy and Hilton in front of them will we be in the same boat next year.

Sure - but I can’t imagine he’d have transferred here just to be a return specialist. Maybe he’s really just a competitive animal who said frick it. I’ll play my way on the field, but realistically the vast majority of guys aren’t gonna give up a starting spot to make an intraconference transfer without some type of assurance.

They’re trying to win a championship this year. Think Collins, Spann or Hurley are going to bring us there next year?

Kelly needs to make a deep playoff run or else Underwood is his only lifeline to stay off the hot seat
