...so that's an indication this staff can run a proper recruiting visit.

The No. 23 player in JUCO basketball. He's a 6-4, 185-pound guard out of Northwest Florida State College. Stats...

13.6 ppg
3.1 rpg
3.9 apg (1.8 A/TO ratio)
1.4 spg
.489 FG
.466 3PT
.743 FT

Also offered by Iowa State, Utah and UNLV.

That's a nice pickup, and it's a quality replacement for Blakeney.

Still desperately needs a point guard, and it wouldn't be a terrible idea to get one more forward before the signing period is over.

I think this guy can play some point guard. He could just slide over to the 1 when Mays is on the bench. I would say a JUCO or grad transfer forward should still be top priority right now. Someone who is physically and mentally prepared to start day one.

Not yet. But there may be something about it in the media tomorrow or Wednesday.

It really shouldn't be too hard to make room for both a point guard and a forward.

If you want to take a crack at actually winning a little this coming year, that is.

Just aome info about him from an assistant coach of his:

Q: How would you describe Daryl as a player?

Baskin: He’s a dynamic scorer who scores at a high clip. Scoring is what he really does well. Just like any other basketball player, he has room for improvement, strength wise, in defensive effort. But, he’s definitely a scorer who can score at all three levels.

Q: How’s his development progressed since he got to Northwest Florida State?

Baskin: This is actually my first year. I got to Northwest in August, but just watching film on him between year one and two you can see that there was progress that was made. I think, overall, the thing with him is he likes to work. He likes to work and he puts in the hours. Anything that you’re seeing that’s happened on the court, didn’t happen overnight. He’s a relentless worker. He loves the game of basketball.

Q: Do you know what Daryl’s timeline is like for making a decision?

Baskin: After talking to him, I think he has a few more visits left, two or three, I’m not really sure, but I do know just from speaking with him he’s going to take those visits and he’s going to, obviously, sit down and make the decision with the people that’s closest to him. I think what he’s looking for is the right fit and a place where he can make an impact immediately. You know, the thing about JUCO guys is they don’t have a lot of time to be going some place and sitting kind of waiting for their time. I think he’s looking for a place where he can make an immediate impact, have fun doing it, in a good atmosphere with good people.

According to 247, he seems to be a 100% lock to ISU. Really hope he does pick LSU though.

That's because he visited there the weekend before last.

Word yesterday was he told LSU's coaches he was coming and he had shut his recruitment down.

I don't see Mays being Wade's type of PG.

This makes little to no sense to me. What part of May's game does not fit what Wade wants to do?

This notion has me puzzled.

that is based off one ISU insiders crystal ball.

Whether true or not, that notion comes from Wade running an aggressive system, while Mays plays extremely slow.

He is talented and likely can adapt, but that is the origin of the thought.

I guess I personally don't see Mays as a slow player, but to each their own.

What I've taken from Wade is he wants:

layups, free throws, three pointers, suffocating defense.

I think his ability to get to the rim is something that Wade cherishes. I felt at times this year he could get fouled almost on que and had the highest FT% on our team. He also had the highest steal rate on the team last year which I know is not necessarily a byproduct of hard nosed defense but at least shows his desire for the ball.

He needs to develop his 3 point shot a little more but we have seen a lot of players raise their 3 point percentage a ton between year 1 and year 2 when they realize that is something they need to develop.

Personally I think Mays has some serious upside and should be one of the more successful 4 year players LSU has seen. He made some freshman mistakes last year but I think he for sure has shown some serious skill that will fit nicely into LSUs "new" style of play.

I agree with you. I think the thought also comes from Wade hotly pursuing junior college point guards.
