Is the addition of Reliford and loss of Wiggins a net positive?

I hope for the best for Wiggins, but just wondering if we improved or just it's a one for one swap

We’ll know in a couple years.

We have no way of knowing at this point as Wiggins was also a good hs prospect. Wiggins clearly wasnt high level SEC caliber but that wasnt the consensus when we signed him. Hopefully with another D Line coach, Reliford won't suffer the same fate.

Well considering that Wiggins was never able to get on the field and appeared to be pretty low on the depth chart, I'm going to say its an improvement.

Wiggins didn’t play and can always replace him with a 1 year portal guy if needed. I think we are pretty deep at end anyway. We still need a number 1 guy though.

Crazy. Really thought Wiggins was gonna be a good one.

Sounds like a positive. Wiggins hit not the field hardly at all.

Wiggins was always a project with great physical attributes. Cain leaving for he NFL really hurt his growth.

Reliford comes in as a much more developed product.

But as others have said, time will tell. You never truly know how a prospect will acclimate to the next level. Especially in the trenches.

Really not a fair 1-for-1 comparison. Have to look at it on the whole b/c you know you're going to lose some guys to the portal every year regardless (whether Wiggins or someone else), so better to think about it as...

Is everyone we're bringing in (portal + HS) + the development of our current guys > what we're losing through the portal?...

From the standpoint of pure athletic ability, probably a net loss. From the standpoint of who is currently the best football player, probably a net positive.

Not sure. Wiggins is a physical god. However IIRC he had not played more than a couple yrs of FB. Could be wrong on that. Maybe just taking time to fill his coconut.

He could go be another Landon Jackson with his physical attributes

Its not a zero sum situation. Both could be on the roster at the same time.

Sucks that Wiggins is leaving, but can't change it.

Probably true but with some of the players and utilization our D went with his year, I’m can’t be sure that’s accurate.

He would've been a helluva blocking fullback.

If nothing else, the reset of getting an extra 2 years is a huge net gain. And Gabe might not be the physical specimen, but he’s clearly a better football player right now. Not apples to apples, but I think it’s good “trade.”
