We haven’t done any posting on the saga of seven-foot Chalmette High superstar basketballer Mitchell Robinson and the possibility he might end up playing for LSU and head coach Will Wade, but we heard rumors about the possibility three weeks ago and they’ve never gone away. Now, with the news Tuesday that Robinson has received his release from Western Kentucky, where he signed and enrolled, those appear to be more than rumors.

Will Wade Isn’t About To Land Mitchell Robinson, Is He?

Excellent article that covered all the bases and then some.
I'm kinda hoping he has to sit out and comes next year with Smart and, God willing, Reid. And my son starts LSU next year so I could go up and watch some games with him.

I haven't been this excited about the future of the LSU basketball program since the last Final 4 run.

Buyer beware.

Many of you thought Ben Simmons was "bad" for the program since he was on the 6 month plan. If Mitchell gets his release and can only play this year then watch out. Ben Simmons has/had a MUCH better attitude than Mitchell Robinson.

2018 class with Smart Reid and Robinson. Sheesh. Then you'd return damn near everyone from this years team who will get good experience.

Great article. Helps clear up just where we are right now with Robinson. Hopefully coach Wade can get him here.

Great stuff. Basketball recruiting info is hard to find around here.

The only edit....I don't think Mitchell is a Louisiana native...unless he moved from Louisiana to Florida and then back again.

Add that group to Robinson coming off a redshirt year, plus Waters, Mays, Edwards, Sampson, Kiir, Alexander, Rachal and perhaps Bigby-Williams, and it’s a roster which is quite arguably the best in the history of the Tiger program. A threesome of Reid, Robinson and Smart would certainly rival the 1990-91 mind-boggling trio of Stanley Roberts, Shaquille O’Neal and Chris Jackson, but with what would appear to be better supporting talent and a coach in Wade who has all the makings of a national elite head man. That’s the kind of team which can go toe-to-toe with a Kentucky in regular season play and make a very, very deep run in the NCAA Tournament, and Wade could conceivably have it in only his second year.

oh man....

Can you really see him going to Kentucky or LSU, sitting a year, and then playing a year?

I'm having a hard time seeing that. This seems like it could be a situation like Kanter at Kentucky, where Robinson transfers somewhere, works out with the team for a year, and then enters the draft next June. Almost every projection I've seen has him being a late lottery pick and I've only seen one board that didn't project him as a first rounder. I know not playing for a year will drop him on draft boards, but I couldn't really imagine him not still being a first round pick.

Also, I know the reasons for the Kanter situation at Kentucky are completely different, and he was ruled permanently ineligible, so he didn't have any choice but to go pro. But he sat out a year and still went third overall.

At the very least, Robinson will dip his toe in the water next summer, right? That would seem like a no-brainer to me.

Yea, regardless of where he ends up it seems unlikely he would be willing to sit out a year only to play college ball the next season when he would be eligible for the NBA draft. 20 Freshman entered the NBA draft this past June. Of the 247 top 20 HS players for the 2016 class, only 4 stayed for their second year in college (2 at Duke and 2 at Mich St.)

You hate it for the college game, but the overwhelming majority of the top HS prospects see college as just a mandatory 1 year stop before the NBA. Mitchell is the 8th ranked player. I'd LOVE to see him play for LSU either this upcoming season or the next, but it's hard to really see that happening.

The X factor is Wade's program management vs Johnny's.
