I met Mary Lou and her husband shortly after they were married. It was at a Gold's Gym in Cancun. She had retired from gymnastics and had put on some weight. Her husband was very much taller. I want to say she was about 5-1 and he was about 6-2. Does anyone know how tall the daughter is?

Yes. You should if you know anything about gymnastics. For Americans, Retton WAS the 1984 Olympics. My sisters were doing flips and shite all over the house that summer. LOL.

She was not only the first American female to win the all-around, but the first non European female to win it. She scored perfects 10s in route to winning the gold, something that you never see at the Olympics. She was named Sports Illustrated magazine's "Sportswoman of the Year". She appeared on a Wheaties box, and became the cereal's first official spokeswoman.

She stayed in the spotlight for many years after she retired from gymnastics. She was a spokesperson for conservative, Christian women and was close with the Reagans.

If her daughter is anything like her, LSU is getting a great athlete and representative for the university.
