I know it has been discussed on here a good bit. The word on the streets around Thibodaux is that Trey's scolly is close to being pulled. He has knee issues and I am not sure if LSU would work out some other plan for Granier or not.

If he is not medically able to play football, they would find a way to honor their commitment to him and possibly open up a spot.

I don't see Les leaving a Louisiana kid in the cold who committed to him.

But that doesn't mean that they wouldn't find a way to work around the numbers if is ability to contribute is in question.

Didn't we honor his scholly anyway despite the injury? I thought that was a really classy thing they did with Breaux.

I think so but don't remember his timeline...does it follow Graniers?

Exactly. I'm sure everyone remembers the Breaux situation. He stayed with the team and is hoping for a GA job this fall.

But I thought he still took up a roster spot or is it the same thing as Chris Tolliver? I think Chris is still getting his scholly but somehow he isn't counting against our number

He got a scholly, but didn't count against the 85. Similar to Tolliver, but just before his career actually started. I don't think there are any limits to how many scholarships the athletic dept can fund when it pertains to people that don't actually participate in athletics. So them being willing to pay for the kid's education even when they don't tangibly benefit is a great thing.

Our athletic dept aint running out of money any time soon anyways, so keeping these guys on scholarship isn't an issue that way either.

I think I remember the Breaux situation correctly, but someone let me know if I'm missing a detail or two.

Breaux got injured at the start of his senior season after he had committed to LSU. Toddrick Bajoie and D'Montrel Wilson did not sign with LSU due to grades. Breaux signed with LSU in the signing period despite the injury that prevented him from closing out his senior year. For one year, he counted as a scholarship player and was then given a medical hardship along with Jordan Corbin and Kentravis Aubrey (Aubrey may have been a year later, this I don't remember). Once he had the medical hardship, he didn't count against the 85, but LSU paid for his tuition just like with Jefferson/Lee/Wing/Mingo/etc.

And I think Breaux is graduating next semester. I believe Corbin also stuck around and graduated a few weeks ago.

I don't buy that Les is pulling his scholly and if he does he should be blasted by everyone with a pulse. It's not the right thing to do at all. College football is a business as most say but LSU football makes millions upon millions of $. They can afford to honor this kids scholly. Go take a look at our 85 man roster and see how many kids don't contribute. 1 guy isn't going to hurt us at all. Hell we played with 83 this year and are undefeated. Honor this kid's scholarship.

Affording a scholarship isn't about money, it is about limited numbers available.

It happens, but you don't give one to someone you KNOW won't contribute. Everyone on scholarship was viewed as a potential contributor.

With that said, if his playing career is over it would be good PR to give him a free ride and let him be a manager or something but not on the team. I doubt he would count against the limit since noting has been signed. If he thinks he can play again but doctors aren't sure, let him take a grey shirt and switch him the following year depending on his status.

It's kinda both. If he's physically unable to contribute, he can be on scholarship without counting against the numbers. However, not every school is as fortunate as LSU to be able to pay for the kids schooling. A lot of schools have trouble funding the scholarships they are required to offer to maintain D1 status. LSU's athletic department can pay for kids that won't ever even step on the field.
