Hammond has fallen on bad times with that program

Sacrificing athletics for academics. The only IB program in the state. They will be one of the best schools on the northshore within 5 years.

So is that keeping some athletes at Hammond ineligible because of those higher standards?

and thats a bold statement saying Hammond will be one of the best in five years. I hope so, but doubt that.

Don't they have Malter Schobel there? Covington did him wrong.

However there's too much competition for athletes there. Someone has to not get any and STA and Ponchatoula are rolling

A lot of kids are going to Ponchatoula. Especially since they've got coach Hank and have been really good the past couple of years.

As far as academics go, they will always have a segment that doesn't test well but these kids in the IB program are crushing it. The results from the IB tests they are taking are coming in higher than the national average.

That school and leaders in the school board couldn't give two shits about athletics anymore. It sad because they used to be a very respected athletic program

There are plenty of kids that can play ball in South Tangi area. Just need the right people to develop them.

You obviously don't understand what the IB program is but whatever you say.

PHS is declining academically while Hammond High Magnet is on the upswing.

Hammond High Magnet School Performance Score: D

Hammond Magnet is essentially 2 schools. While the IB portion of the school is excelling (only a small portion of the school population) as a whole the school is still a D school and their students are still elidgible for the voucher program. Seems like they have done a great job focusing on the elite few students but are still failing the majority. It all looks good in the newspaper that they are succeding at a high level with the IB program but no one ever mentions that they are almost failing as a school as a whole. If you look at the numbers school performance actually declined almost 1% from 2012-13-2013-14.
The IB program as a single entity is great but its a smokescreen to hide the overall failure of the school.

Now that sounds more realistic. Still not good that Hammond cant get more production out of those kids on the field. They have talent, it just needs to be exposed.

You obviously dont realize that the only reason PHS is dropping academically is because of taking in transfers from Hammond

Even with those transfers, the grade should be back to a "B" school by next year.

Regarding the great Hammond vs Poncy debate. We had to make the decision 2 years ago. Hammond, Ponchy, or STA. I went to Hammond - albeit 20 years ago - so I know some of the downfalls. I loved the magnet program, but didn't like the 1500-1800 kids in general pop. The Hammond baseball/football teams are not fairing very well either. Ponchy doesn't have the magnet program and doesn't offer a more challenging curriculum and I know a more then a few parents that aren't very happy with the school academically. On the flip side, Coach Hank is great and the baseball team is better but not great. So I pay a heavy tuition.

If your kid can handle the honors curriculum and dual enrollment, then they can graduate PHS one credit hour shy of a sophomore in college. And it's thousands of dollars less than a year of tuition at STA and college. STA isn't even fully staffed with certified teachers. But neither is Hammond for that matter, they had to rush to fill 30+ jobs that last years administration drove off.
