Dual threat/Pro style designation

why don't they just shite can this whole designation and just say QB's. They dont' divide up other positions like that. They don't designate into separate catagories slow sure handed WR's form fast shifty speedy WR's or big space eater DT's that can't move from more mobile athletic DT's. etc. Just seems arbitrary and confuses the more dumber fans who think we have to have a QB from the 'Pro style' category.

not exactly sure what that has to do with it but yes I suppose . They divide RB's form FB's and OT's from OG's from C's as they are separate positions. But QB is a QB. Some are more mobile than other others, some have stronger arms, some are taller, some are more accurate, etc. They could divide into those catagories as well, would make as much sense.

Completely agree with the QB crap. A QB is a QB plain and simple. If one moves well then factor that into his rating. In the end, I need my qb to be able to pass the football whether he can run or not. I do prefer guys that have that ability to hurt teams with their feet but would prefer they can actually pass over anything else.

As others have already said, a lot of positions break down into subcategories, like OLB vs ILB, etc... even OTs are generally analyzed as to whether they're better suited as RTs or LTs.
Beyond that, at a certain point, the running threat some QBs pose makes it so that they really should be categorized separately. On the extreme end, Michael Vick, Pat White (WVU) and Mariota this past year are substantially different than traditional QBs like any of the Mannings, Tom Brady or Mett at LSU. Comparing these two groups of QBs is more like comparing DEs to DTs than ILBs to OLBs. Calling Vick, etc. dual-threat is helpful.
I agree that the line gets a little blurry when you have a QB who does both well or doesn't clearly sit on one side of pro-style vs dual-threat. Cam Newton was a dual threat... but one who could pass well enough to make it to the pros. So was Vince Young. But there's still enough of a difference with most QBs that the distinction is worth keeping.

There are players like Torrance Gibson this year who are DTQBs but get classified as ATH.

Let be brutally honest here. For the most part its how they differentiate between white and black. Is it wrong, probably but how often do you see a white QB referred to as a dual threat? It happens but not often.
