Offer every LB at Jack then just move a few to the inside and tell them if not, they will be cut so he can oversign again.... Hate and misinformation...

jdg, I think Capstone is being honest in this situation. Andrew Bones' Scout article quotes Devall as saying Bama is recruiting him "for all four linebacker positions".

He also said "they don't know which one they want me to play."

And he said, "I don't have a preference."

In this particular instance, Saban isn't selling him on the jack.

, but how many of your current MLB were actually recruited as such. Please be honest. Doesn't Saban just offer everyone at Jack and move them as he sees fit once camp starts.

Contrary to the popular belief on this board, apparently, Alabama does not offer every LB as a "Jack". With four LB spots, why would the Alabama staff do that? It takes a certain body type and skill set to play each position. Especially the hybrid positions like Jack and Sam.

There is little movement at LB, unless a guy is buried on the depth chart and could get on the field quicker at another spot. If a guy is signed as a Jack LB, he usually stays there, unless he outgrows the position like Ed Stinson.

This is the main example I was thinking of when I posted. I remember LSU lost Stinson because Saban promised a "Jack" position for him. Now, he's at DE. Whether Saban intently did it or not, it happened and it's hard to refute this situation. I still think all coaches do things like that to get recruits. My main point was that maybe you were thinking with emotion and passion as opposed to logic and facts.

If we could ever find a true Jack... Probably the biggest recruiting missed area to date.

I think Stinson gained 50lbs. He's a big boy now

Stinson is 6-4 290. How do you think he's going to play LB?

"jacks" are tweeners between DE and OLB. It's not uncommon for them to outgrow the position

offering at one position then switching the kids as camp went on.

Every program in America does this. Kids don't stay the same size from high school into their college years. They also have more competition and some guys have to be moved to other positions where they can be more effective and have more use to the team.

Devall has visited Alabama four times and brought his parents on the most recent one. His father said to it was "a no brainer" to choose Alabama but that it was not his decision.
