devall said he narrowed it down to bama and a&m but still looking at arkansas and oklahoma

This could be a long way from being decided; easily could be a NSD deal. I didn't think Arky and OU ran the 3-4. If not, does anyone know why Devall is giving lsu the cold shoulder treatment? I understand not every prospect likes lsu, but he is a self proclaimed lsu fan. It just seems weird lsu is never mentioned.

We're a 4-3 on paper, but we run quite a bit of 3-4 formations. In fact, we're planning to switch to it in the near future, It's Willy Robinsons D of choice, but we didn't have the bodies for it when he arrived. Wouldn't be surprised if we're selling him on that.

Scout guys are saying it could be NSD decision because he's torn between bama and A&M. They are also reporting he will take all 5 officials. I'm not saying he won't end up at Bama; just that he was a silent to A&M the last few months and is now peaking for bama....could be longer than they expect. If he commits I do congratulate him on that coveted "jack" position and the possibility of being cut in 3 years....

We call it a "joker". There's actually less pass rushing than with the "joker" position.

Same spot on the field just a different 3-4. Our DC Tim DeRuyter learned his schemes from Dick Labauve, the Pitt Steelers DC

Whethter it be "Jack" at Alabama or "Buck" at Florida it just sounds silly.

I know Bama calls is a Jack because the position is a hybrid DE/OLB... a Jack of all trades

It's no different than calling it Sam, Mike or Will. Or Drop OLB or Rush OLB

This position in a 3-4 is still considered a LB, never a DE; even if the hand is on the ground at some point. I was schooled on this long ago by the Rant coaches. Its 1 LB position in a 3-4, close to the line with limited pass coverage. It's main responsibility is to stop the run and rush the passer.

It's just hilarious how every LB is a possible Jack LBer at Bama. Even money DD ends up in the middle or at his natural DE position if he signs with Bama; the 2 positions LSU is recruiting him to play.

Not according to Joe Kines. What I stated about the Jack is what Joe Kines said in interviews when asked

ETA: if I understood him correctly. He and Ed Orgeron run a close race. Troy Landry gets a distant 3rd in the "do you have a mouthful of gravel" contest

It seems this way at A&M too. It's harder to find ILB. Or kids that want to play ILB. It's not near as glamorous as being the next Von Miller

I believe you man. LeBeau runs the most effective 3-4 ever, so I trust you at your word. I was simply referring to what the coaches on the Rant told me. I mentioned the word Hybrid before, and they went off.

I just read DD not committing on his visit to Bama could be good for A&M. He seems to really like A&M. Stay tuned...

Unless you have a Butkus winner like Rolando McClain to sell them on.

This is true although I'm unsure why. When I think of the greatest LBers of all time, I usually think of guys like Ray Lewis, Butkus, Singletary, etc. The only real OLB that comes to mind is LT although I'm sure there are more. Sadly, I think kids are lazy today and MLB is more work it seems.

A&M could always use Saban's strategy; Offer every LB at Jack then just move a few to the inside and tell them if not, they will be cut so he can oversign again....

What's up with the McNeese logo bra. Did you attend??

I agree this help just as PP7 winning the Thorpe helps DB recruiting for LSU, but how many of your current MLB were actually recruited as such. Please be honest. Doesn't Saban just offer everyone at Jack and move them as he sees fit once camp starts.

Definitely hate, but misinformation? I think there was a 10 page piece in SI on how your coach oversigns and cuts, right?

Capstone, keep in mind Saban coached at LSU for 5 years. We know his ways. He actually was approached about these recruiting tactics, offering at one position then switching the kids as camp went on. He was also approached about signing so many players, now known as oversigning, and he famously told the BR media, " Let me handle this. You report about the football on the field. "

All coaches do it, but your ability to look past it regarding your own team where your passion lies is causing blindness and is a direct reflection on your man crush.

Oddly enough, we have Dat Nguyen coaching our ILBs. You would think a Texas kid or any Cowboy fan would be all over that.

And I'm an Ag. Went to A&M but I'm from SW LA, took a few summer courses at McNeese. Just showing some love for the Pokes
