we don't need to throw money at the situation. i find it hard to understand how alleva would have so much power over the football program. it would seem like the big boosters would tell alleva to get lost if he were the problem.

Maybe taking a page out of Saban's book and offering darn near every out of state prospect would work.

Yep. But that's only effective if you increase the recruiting budget. The offers are one thing, but you need boots on the ground following up on all of those offers. And that means they need to hire more people.

Exactly. The staff would be stretched to the limits if we tried this for the '15 or '16 class.

So you really think LSU has the option to hire more recruiting staff and just hasn't jumped on this opportunity?

Again, no one can give me one legitimate reason how increasing the budget will make an actual impact.

just because lil nicky does it doesn't mean we need to try it. does florida, georgia, ohio state, florida state do it. no. there are various ways to be successful in recruiting. money or lack there of has nothing to do with who we get or don't get in this recruiting class.

He just told you how. How is increasing the size of your staff not an intuitive strategy?

Now I would acknowledge that at some point diminishing returns kicks in but there's no doubt that a larger staff would improve results. By how much is the question.

It wouldn't have affected who LSU did not get out of LA this year, but to suggest that a more vigorous effort that would be possible with more funds/staff wouldn't allow LSU to be perhaps better prepared to replace the plan A guys is kinda silly.

Did you miss the first part of my post? LSU can only hire a finite number of coaches who may recruit. That's what it means when a coach is being moved to an "administrative" role, he's still getting paid to work in the office but he can't contact recruits.

Aside from that there are rigid rules as to how and when any one program and each coach within can contact a prospect, DJ McCarthy ring a bell? The whole reason Grimes wasn't announced officially was so that Les could have more time via a loophole when there's an assistant spot open.

If you want to talk about putting handlers on the payroll then I'm all for it but the NCAA is gonna have some comments on that too, and it wouldn't be in the official recruiting budget. LSU's recruiting budget is a blank check for all intents and purposes. The coaches do what they need to do and fly where they wanna fly and if you think they're worried about the budget then you really don't understand how it works.

You're dead wrong. Schools are allowed unlimited recruiting staff and these employees get unlimited contact with recruits, zero contact with players.

Rule change a year ago

All we use are coaches to recruit. They use coaches and staff.

I remember you bringing this up, but you couldn't produce a link, or any sort of confirmation of it. I'm calling bullshite.

What you're describing is paying highschool coaches and handlers to talk you up.

What I'm describing is reality. I know kids being recruited and I see things the library may not contain.

I didn't say it didn't happen. LSU does it to, but that shite doesn't go in the budget.

Your point is that we need a paper trail for cheating?

You are so far off what my point is.

I'm not even talking about cheating.

I'm telling you it is fact that other universities are hiring nfl caliber recruiting/scouting staff.

Also nfl teams regionalize scouts. My cousin is based in BR but works for the 49ers go figure.

Colleges can do the same thing.

We have one of the lowest recruiting budgets in the SEC. Why? Need good players to fill that big arse stadium and pay these ridiculous coaching salaries. Which combined is one of the highest in NCAA.

Talent is THE BACKBONE of a football program.

From what I gather CROB's dad is actually a member of the Bama recruiting staff now. He's been shuttling Monroe kids to Bama camps for the past year. This is a legit hire.

And I'm telling you it's a fact that those scouts can't contact recruits on the phone or in person or it's a violation. When I ask you for a link you say it's how it is on the streets. Our staff isn't retarded, if it were legal we would be doing it. We already do what you're saying, it just doesn't get printed in the balance sheets. You're asserting that Willie Lyles could be given a title and it would all be fine after the NCAA busted his balls. Again, I'm calling bullshite til you produce a link.

We pay people for film and film analysis, and my whole point is that if anyone thought more of that would help TAF would shell out the extra money in a heartbeat or we wouldn't be turning in a surplus. Off the record shite is a whole nother debate. I don't see why you think having more film junkies who can't recruit would help when we were on Cam and LF in the eighth grade and we still find under the radar guys like Kelly. What is more money gonna do?
