It's pretty easy to promise a kid playing time when he looks at last year's record.

Prince will be going to PSU for his visit and not LSU. Hope we can land Derrick Kelly. Sounds like a decent chance of that.

That may be the case for others but it's not like we ever had a shot at Prince. The only reason we did was due to the hiring of Busta Grimes

True. It was an accomplishment just to get a listen from this kid. Grimes is going to be a big time asset!

At the same time, I don't really see many others that we were "late" on. I don't think timing is the issue as it's more our confidence in recruits is too high and that needs to change. When that changes, our timing won't be an issue

I only see Speaks as the lone person we were "late" on and I think that is due to being too confident with Willis there

Maybe taking a page out of Saban's book and offering darn near every out of state prospect would work. It may actually help light a fire under in state kids waiting so long.

we need at least one 'LIGHTS OUT" out of state recruiter. a guy that can get us a couple (minimum) of top 150 players EVERY year. we don't have a CONSISTENT top oos recruiter. we probably need lm to be even more demanding of the staff on the recruiting trail. look how long guys like cooper, stud, ensminger have lasted at LSU while being poor recruiters.

Or like I think you've suggested before, offer the group and let them know it's first come first serve with how they'll accept commitments.

Good point. It's probably a good lesson to take from this recruiting season.

This would probably work as long as the staff doesn't spread itself too thin.

Late on Speaks and Carter. Carter said "they are a little behind only because they were late coming in". I hope if this staff learns anything from this 2014 class its stop assuming anything and stay on everyone on the board. Need to step it up nationally.

This right here! Well said. I made a post last year going over the offers that Bama had out to top recruits vs what LSU had for the top 100 guys in the country. We were in on like 30 compared to them on 70. So if they lose one no big deal, they were already talking to the next guy on the list.

You're missing the key piece. Alabama has a scouting department in a multimillion dollar facility that is 25 full time employees and rising.

It rivals nfl scouting departments.

Until Alleva is gone and we get an ad willing to let les compete, we will continue to be out recruited.

We spend 300k on recruiting a year.

Great player already, with loads of upside. Needs to work on his footwork - a little, and pass-blocking techniques (these are minor quibbles), but really nice size, athletic and a nasty streak. His offer sheet trumps what Rivals thinks of him.

Prince probably rated a little higher on measureables and maturity, but I think he was quite the longshot all the time.

LSU really needs to step up it's game. Nearly last in the SEC in dollars spent on recruiting.

I thought we spent 3M on recruiting and Bama spent 9M?

How would a bigger scouting department help in this case? We went after CRob and missed, and managed to find Kelly. I keep hearing people say we need to throw money at the problem but no one will give one good reason why it would help.
