Actually, dick, I'm being positive.

The kid is already committed to sign with Bama. Therefore, he is Alabama's to lose but there's a possibility that we can flip him. Currently not getting him, but that may change. So, there's no need to get everyone's hopes up until he decommits from Bama and commits to LSU. We literally have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

He's been committed to Bama for 56 days. How is that a long time? I've gone longer between showers.

Wonder if its to up the offer from Bama, they are currently offering a dodge minivan and he wants a dodge ram 3500 diesel. Show a little love to LSU to get bama to fork over the keys to the ram.

Why are you all acting like this dude is going to make or break this recruiting cycle. He's just a good lb. There are plenty of them. We will be okay regardless, esp with Aranda. Have you not seen what he can do with the white boys up north? This guy is not special or important. LSU will be great regardless on defense. Chill.

There is a reason Allen is #1 on LSU's board...he's a animal.

If they miss out the world won't crumble by any means, but this guy is special.

Honestly, Gay and Phillips would be ahead of Allen on my personal board.

This is how you effing recruit... Now Allen sees that LSU is actually wanted by other OOS big time linebackers it makes these recruits think differently about LSU. Kinda like the pretty girl you see at school but never ask out but you never see her with another guy so you don't follow through. One day you see that girl you've been flirting with with another guy and you hurry and jump all over it. These guys are kids so this is somewhat how their minds work not all but many. Same with Phillips and Gay, best case you get all 3 worst case you end up with 1 or 2 of them but you're not left out in the cold. Also builds momentum for next year. I love it! Get em TIGERS!

I have zero inside sources, but this looks oddly similar to the Hootie Jones recruitment.

Not sure if that's a legit reasoning. Look at the instability right now at BAMA with all the rumors floating around about Tosh and Cristobal. Two of their top recruiters. Way too many moving parts for neither of them to take other positions. But I have to remember that these are kids and are ,more than likely, very impressionable and believe these guys when they're saying "oh, I'm not going anywhere!"

I understand where you are going with this, however there is a huge difference between a couple of staff members changing at Bama with Saban at the helm, and what happened in the aftermath of our coaching search. Everything seems to be headed in the right direction at the moment, and I give O credit for making some good decisions to get momentum moving in the right direction (after a couple of early hiccups that caused some worry).

All that said, O doesn't have enough successful track record as a head coach right now to cover over any instability. That's why he had to work fast to confirm staff hires and fires to keep recruiting on track. On the other hand, Saban can flash his rings and remind everyone that he pretty much nails every hire these days. I hope O gets to that point here, but it will take time and winning.

I'm not sure how much of a role perceived instability in the wake of Miles being fired and O being hired played in the recruiting of some of the guys we now have shots at, but I would bet it had an impact because of how other schools will push any negative to get an edge. If you don't think that's effective, check out Ole Miss' class right now.

Do you believe the difference for Bama has been the coaching? It's been that slightly better athlete at each position, and their LB's have been key to their success. That margin of improved athlete is critical to dominate a conference as Bama has done over the last few years. You may have the occasional exception like an Auburn, LSU that rises up every few years, but in the long run, those athletes pay off.

I agree with what you're saying to a point. But the talent delta isn't insurmountable. What has handicapped us has been Les's philosophy on O. That exacerbates the (IMO relatively small) talent differences to where they seem so great, e.g., our OL talent is right now better than any team of recent that has had success on O vs Bama.

But people are calling this huge. Is it really that huge?

Here's why I think this is huge (beyond the simple fact that Allen is by all accounts a great prospect at an area of dire need for us):

Bama is the pace car. They are still the pace car in the SEC. A last second loss in the championship with a true Fr QB won't undo that. Saban plays to dominate, not just be respectable. One piece of that is to get every top-shelf recruit from LA he can. We are his main threat year-in and year-out. If we are going to compete with them every year, we need to keep the Allen-type players at home.

For us to flip Allen from Bama would indeed be huge.

Really, how???

Hootie was posting on twitter "Where's the love" to LSU. After LSU knew they had Adams they didn't give a flying "F" about Hootie and did not show love or any communication.

How does this possibly seem oddly similar to the Hootie Jones recruitment?

one big difference... this is happening with Allen during a contact period.

All the decommit/flip/reopen stuff happened with Hootie during a non-contact period (but he had FA papers signed with LSU). LSU would have gotten in trouble (secondary violations) if they had reached out to Hootie like CEO has Allen.

It's a technicality, but an important one. Changes the approach a coach can/will take with the recruit.
